I have EZ Drummer and the DFH expansion. I cannot for the life of me get the default drum kit(s) in EZ to sit well in the mix of any song I'm currently working on! However, the DFH kits fit perfectly into the mixes. (I'm not Mr. Hardcore Grind Metal or anything, it's all pop/rock/alt flavored stuff that ranges from mellow to fairly high energy.) YMMV...

I have not had superior, so I'm not sure about this. I am surprised though that you feel that way about ezdrummer. It's not high res, but it's still really solid sounding.

Again though, when you have something that's a monster like superior or c/v......It does make sense that it sounds better!

The main reason I never got one of toon's bigboys is that they were a bit hard to get.......then I went intelmac...........ooops.............that was the end of that idea!

I vote Vintage Rock. I use the Ludwig Black Beauty and Paiste fast crashes from that, and DFH for everything else. Nashville is a great choice too, though!

DFH all the way, they just sound perfect to my ears.. but then again, I'm into metal and own the original DFH samples. :)
Remember the iLokalypse Summer 2013

Samples and presets and free stuff!

well i use ezd default kit and throw on tls_saturator with all knobs 100% and it sounds killer ;)

Nashville is a very full sounding kit. It has very broad applications - from blues to country to rock and pop. The Clautrophobia kit is very dry - great if you want to do crisp and funky stuff. I think those are probably my favorites from EZDrummer.

BTW It has just been announced that these can be used with Superior 2.0 as well.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love EZDrummer...so long as I've got the DFH expansion loaded up. In all fairness though, my problem isn't really the sounds themselves in EZD, but a personal preference for the sound of Pearl and Sonor drums. I love the snap and punch that they seem to have. Now that I've said this, just wait, sometime in the next 24 hours I'll find the EZD kit(s) fit perfectly into something I start working on. :dog:

I'll tell you one thing that ALL of the ezdrummer kits seem to lack........a really super-ringy snare! :x

The ones that are close are not good enough imho.

Gonna agree wholeheartedly with this. :( A musical co-conspirator and I are currently working on a quasi-ska flavored track and we're having a hell of a time getting a snare sound that's ring-y enough. What are the odds that if we both e-mail Toontrack tonight to complain that they'd rectify such in the next week or so? (Wishful thinking to be sure, but perhaps a future expansion might address such a thing as they seem to be fairly committed to further expanding EZD. Good thing, too, as my lust for acoustic drum and percussion sounds borders on being completely insatiable...)

I haven't had much face time with Nashville yet, but Vintage Rock is, to me, THE perfect drumkit. I use it in pretty much everything I do.

I don't know about the best, but the *coolest* is Twizted Kit, hands-down no question!

I must admit to being a bit underwhelmed with Claustophobic, although in fairness I haven't spent much time with it yet.

But I can't believe how excited I've gotten for Superior 2.0! I can load the EZD kits in, plus have the Superior drums, plus built-in effects from Sonalksis??? That's a no-brainer right there - wow!

I can't decide between Nashville or Vintage for my next EZX; my head says Nashville, my heart says Vintage. But maybe I shouldn't get either and wait for Superior 2.0, to evaluate it's drums. Might already have both those bases covered, I'm thinking...

Out of the box, the preset kits are set up with the FX busses pretty prominent in the mix. If you haven't tried playing around much in the mixer you might want to try nixing those channels and adding just what you want to taste.

There are also quite a variety of snares, kicks and hats in there. I would suggest trying all of those out because there is a fair variety there and you can find some pretty cool kits just mixing and matching. At present you cannot save your own constucted kit as a preset for later recall but you can save a song of course so you can work with it again if you want to.

Superior 2.0 should users give full control over everything in these EZ expansion libraries which is good news I think.
