Because the GI-20 is much better for tracking external synths
and outputting midi data than the GR-20.

I agree the demo is annoying but I took the plunge and bought a WIDI license and it works fine. It does respond to bends and legato, but the notes are all chromatic. This is a bummer since I play a fretless guitar and I can't get that microtonal thing or that flutey-violiney-slidey-glissando thing. Otherwise it works grat. Yesterday I learned Sensomusic's Usine has 2 different audio to midi modules in it even in the free version of Usine. I look forward to trying them.

I had a GI-10 for a while; I found that I got the best tracking by restringing the guitar with 009s for each string, all tuned to E and then repitching in the GI-10. The tracking was much faster and cleaner then.

It seems like the smartest thing would be to simply record the audio and then apply the midi processing after, no? I'm curious to hear how things turn out with your further experiments, please keep us up to date.

Where'd you get a fretless guitar??? I've been wanting one ever since listening to a lot of Guqin and Erhu music on a recent trip to China.

Any opinions on what strings work best with a standard magnetic hex pickup system? Flatwound, roundwound, heavy, light?

I have a Shadow SH-075 that's been sitting in a drawer for about a decade -- it worked fine, I just kind of lost interest in it and got tired of that big clunky box stuck on my strat.

anyway, thinking about setting it up again on a spare guitar -- seems like flats, with less harmonic content, might reduce false triggers. Anybody tried it?

Hrmn....I'm gonna have to try that!

I think my GR-50
will let me do that. Only problem there is that, onstage, I like to blend in my real guitar sound. Still that might be
a nice setup for the studio....sounds like the way to go
for sequencing midi.
