Wow, you must be wasting machines like a Catholic girl wastes her virginity when she turns 18...I'm using reason3 on a 733mhz witho any problems at all, and my tracks are pretty...er...'out there'.

But I'd like a report on reason3 for the eee as well...the resolution width is perfect (the window for the rack is something like 780). To have an even *smaller* computer than the one I run it on now would be nice...(the computer I've got now is about the size of a piece of notebook paper with the thickness of about half an inch).

Don't bother with reason 4...just reason 3.

about vaz, does vaz still automatically scroll down in the synth window when loading long modules? that can be annoying for the eee's

, analogbox2 can be good for this kinda computers (i wonder).

i also ordered a eeepc can't wait

i plan to stick with linux using audacity, zynaddsubfx, Linux MultiMedia Studio,
gimp, etc.

but who knows?
i might arrange a dual-boot system
so i can use FL Studio as well

not yet; easymode asked me to try it out, so i'll be doing that very soon, hopefully tonight. I'll also try out the reason3 demo. rebirth might be an issue given that it needed a massive on-CD keyfile didnt it?

I can confirm that BramBos' Lunchbox Battles (DC2006) and Audacity both run fine, though. LBB in particular is a nice little 'noodler' to have on it. Blip (DC2007 wont fit onscreen

Saw something on the Synthmaker forum that made me realise one that an eee and of these:

could be used to build a £350 Lemur clone....

In fact if this:

could be used as a retrofit, or on a recased eee, then it'd be a £250 Lemur clone.

a couple of quick tryouts, but im afraid ive not had enough time to do more than fire up the apps and see how well they'll load/play. neither of them are apps i use, so i'll need time to work out what i can manage to achieve.

Reason3 demo : loads, and fits width-wise on the eee screen. no hope in hell of running the initial demo track though, but simple tracks might be possible.

fl7 demo : fits onscreen, just, but a bit cramped. not much room though, the toolbars etc take up about 1/3rd of the vertical space, and the sampler and TS404 instruments need the 800x600 resolution mode to fit vertically. running one TS404 with a loop mostly of 2 simultaneous notes used a varying 15-30% of the eee's CPU.

synthedit : installs and runs fine. fits onscreen without any problems, the startup demo project takes about 2% of the CPU

How about Buzz and machines? Or Renoise (wonder how it fits on the 800x480 screen) with samples and built-in effects? These could be nice for prototyping on the go.

Ive not really got a 'tracker mindset', although I did use to use OctaMed on the Amiga. I'll try and get around to a couple of them (Renoise and Buzz probably) after Ive had a chance to try out more of the kind of apps I'd use myself.

very interesting. Thanks for posting your results.

I mainly use a desktop PC, but I've been thinking about a small laptop PC as an aux/portable unit - for the commute, trips, etc. I'm currently torn between getting an eee, or buying a smaller used IBM Thinkpad. Both would cost about the same; beyond that they differ alot... mostly down to size & weight vs display & power.
