I've never heard of problems like these. Are you sure it wasn't a phishing email? IL isn't that difficult to contact at all.
First thing I checked... followed the links in the e-mail to verify before I bit. Fruity Loops FAQ is where I found the "suspicious" phrase.
That kind of e-mail coming from a vendor you've only ordered from ONCE does sound kinda hinky though, doesn't it?
To me, it's kinda analogous to me selling you a CD (for $100) that you play, and then six months later, I contact you and tell you that you won't be able to play that CD anymore unless you re-register it on my web site. AND I had never informed you of the fact that it was only a 6 month provisional registration in advance (or buried this fact deep in a EULA) when you purchased the product.
Maybe I should contact the RIAA with this scheme as a solution to their woes. I sure the Image Line cheerleaders wouldn't mind having to do this with their CDs.
It's simply a shoddy business practice.

WTF, you actually submitted a review on KVR because of this?
Sheesh.

1. Depending on the details of the purchase, regcodes can be temporary. This is to prevent people who do a chargeback from being able to use it afterwards (yes, this happens a lot and costs us money every time). The "suspicious" bit just means that your purchase shares some characteristics with purchases that tend to result in a chargeback. Although I don't know if the expiration is 6 months, I thought it was 1.
2. Registration issues are handled by the ticketing system here:
http://support.flstudio.com
, not at the regular support forum.
3. most browsers ask where you want to download a file, or allow you to set a fixed download location in their preferences

Who the hell are you image lines spokes man?Chris Walton wrote:You're trying to tell me that a one-time complication like this would influence if you'd be happy using DirectWave or not? A few days outweigh over 6 months of happily using it?SODDI wrote:Had I known AT THE BEGINNING that this would happened, it would have influenced my decision to PURCHASE the software.
If this is indeed the case, then I'd like to publically announce my opinion, which is that you're an idiot.
Anyway, you still haven't told us who are trying to help you if (1) you've gotten new registration info in your email (2) what browser you are using.
I'd like to see your reaction when NI's auth server is down again (there's a thread about this on KVR once a month at least), or when your Steinberg dongle breaks (ditto), or when WinZip conveniently forgets that you're registered (older versions would do that).SODDI wrote:I don't have these problems with Steinberg or NI or WinZip (among others).

Just to make things clear:
The regkey I downloaded for FL isn't a PERMANENT one but only lasta for so and so long?
Where do they clearly state that on their website?

The first regcode you receive may be temporary. After that, they won't be anymore.
