The concept was, but not the codebase.

The guy who was developing the Megatron moved on to other things... by an odd coincidence he's now doing 3d sound with the same group of people I worked with before I worked with him.

This one is based on the VSM codebase.

I prefer the name Megatron though... M-Tron pro just doesn't have the same ring to it!

Name's taken, though not by anything music-related. As Sabrina Skunk (a big fan of folding robots) could tell you, Megatron is a Transformer.

They shoulda called it the pro-tron, or "Pron", to better team up with "ARSE" of VSM... Much better... ;)

(or "pr0n")

I thought it might be...

and with the Avid lawyers shitting their pants every time they do anything that might upset anyone (like the VSM "bow job" patch) there was no way they'd get that past.

hope we won't have to wait as long as we did for VSM

No mention in the video if the Mellotron samples are the originals or if they've been resampled. Also no examples of pure Mellotron sounds. The addition of Optigan and Birotron samples is cool though.

holy crap. I've been tempted to buy the original m-tron for like 2 years now, but have managed to hold off.

this thing is ridiculous. that optigan arp just kind of made my brain shut up for like a minute. I laughed when he said "you can expect to hear this on an album released in february".

I hope this comes with all of the tape banks that the updated m-tron came with.

Same here. VSM was a Christmas present, but I'd been holding off on M-Tron. Had a feeling...
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

I have to admit, I was a little pissed at the delayed release of VSM (remember it was supposed to come out in March 2007?!), but according to Dave Spiers in the new vid, it sounds like they spent so long on VSM in order to make the sample engine really "robust" and versatile, and with that new programming in place they could do something like M-Tron Pro with its reverse function, ensemble mode, effects, etc.

I say, as long as M-Tron Pro comes out in a reasonable amount of time, it will make the wait for VSM that much more worth it (and I still haven't gotten a chance to try out VSM!). I think Gforce has learned their lesson from VSM's delayed release and are dead set on this product coming out in reasonable time.

It would definitely be cool if there was a discounted upgrade price for existing M-Tron users, but at this point I'm willing to plunk down the change for M-Tron Pro. Besides, Gforce has reasonable prices on their products...$99 for M-Tron, $129 for VSM -- pretty reasonable to me considering I use M-Tron on EVERYTHING.

Cooool. I'm a big fan of the original M-Tron. Looks like fun!
Surely there must be consensus by now...
