this happens more often than I'd like to admit: I set up a set in Live with weird sig paths, strange routings, audio clips with odd clip envelopes (linked and unlinked), etc. and then just start playing and stuff happens. A lot of times, I never know what will come out from under my (sometimes fat) fingers. This is the result of one of those incidents that started out as an experimental session with using the vocoding options in DtBlkFxS, then things got out of control
(the result of my "using the vocoding options in DtBlkFxS" is the weird intermittent rhythmic burbling you hear thru out: the drum loop is being vocoded against the chordal ep line. DrDevice and CamelSpace were used in that particular signal path as well)

self-indulgent? yeah. probably, but I do hope ya enjoy!

while i will agree that there are some very sweet sounds in here, i personally got bored with it after about a minute of listening.. i realize its a chilled out sound you've got going on here, but it never really went anywhere. i kept waiting for something interesting to happen with it, to bring it to a climax, but it never came..

still, nice sounds..
but could definitely use a bigger finish - at least something unexpected

I like this, taking Mr Young somewhere slightly different. I remember a Jazzman (forgotten who) did similar with Don Henley's New Your Minute.

My only thing, and this is me, is that I find the drums kinda overpowering and flatten the subtlty of the rest. Drums like that are the way of the world right now so...

back again!...sorry for the delayed reply, but as Jazzy mentioned- I was off the grid for a few needed days (did have some nice squirrel free [mostly...] meals, beautiful views, sounds and smells, and most importantly: cooler clims ).

Seems that some of ya liked it okay and others found it lacking for various reasons. Perhaps I should have included the caveat that I do most of the time for this sort of piece:

This is a "one off"...in other words: I did not record the several separate audio tracks or MIDI for this one as it occurs the way you hear it (except for the cheezy backwardz beginning ) While I may be able to play it again- it would not have the same sound/nuance, etc...all was a realtime improv/reaction performance for lack of a better description

I have dozens of similar such pieces. Some *are* better than others, and I am very reluctant to release these sort of pieces to the wild for reasons similar to those expressed by bailee, liqih and Benedict (all valid and true)... and mostly due to the fact that while I may get perfectly great constructive criticisms, I cannot easily act on any of it to change the piece.
I posted this one because I hadn't posted anything in a long while and this one just struck me as different and cool enough at the time. Perhaps it was not so ripe after all ?
whatever the case... for any of you that would be interested in this as a piece with vox included- I really don't know how hard that would be since it's all "mixed to itself" with not a lot of room to simply slide in a vocal track... or maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe it wouldn't be so difficult? Frankly, I dont have the experience with such "reverse engineering" as this project may require, but I'd be more than willing to give any of my kvr brethren the master wav to give 'er a go, but mind you- the master will be an "as is" thing (it's a stereo track [16bit 44.1KHz] of the mp3)

OT- as for the subject of the race? I did finish in an hour and 8mins. Very slow even for a 45yr oldster, but I didn't stop, nor did I feel bad the next day (which was quite nice! would have been lousy if I did feel bad as it's hard enough to go hiking in mountains at 5 thousand ft above sea level even when I'm feeling great!)
so- as I use the race as a "am I old yet" benchmark, no- I'm not old yet ...however...yes! I am mighty slow

If someone wants to track vocals for this I wouldn't mind mixing it... it's not impossible to make space for a vocal in a two-mix.

On another note... someone should get you some huge ass storage drive so you can just record all the individual tracks all the time and then store the 3-5gig project files. That's what I do. I've got smaller project drives and a 1TB network enabled storage device for storage. The only problem is, I end up with like 5 hours of material to wade through

I really enjoyed the tune.

p.p.s. just one negative remark - why the 20+ seconds long, barely audible tail? this would cause a slight problem when listening to various music on shuffle, as when it'll come up, it will make me wait for the next song to come for 20 seconds - 20 seconds without audio?! do you want to kill me or something?

@ Mr 3am- extra space (while it would be mighty nice!) won't help my bad workflow practices. I AM slowly making a turn around in how I approach recording, but until I actually learn to press the damn red button EVERY time I start playing, I lazily rely on Benedict's preroll recorder to save the (moreless) inspired moments from the cutting room floor.
I simply need to record my stuff. back in the tape days, i DID record everything. I ended up with a lot of crap, but it was helpful. I've just got to change bad practices.

@Psy-T - ...well, yer just not listening to it loud enough!
actually, you're right: lately, I have had some egregiously long tails on some of my junk. I'll change that with the next one i post.
