You'd think they'd have a preset somewhere for that kind of thing...

how long will you continue with this shit?
+ a million.

what is the point of spewing the "hardware is the solution to all things" dogma (a) in a forum dedicated to plug ins and (b) when an incredible amount of great sounding music is made ITB?

Absolutely. What good would it do the original poster who wants to learn how to achieve a specific effect themselves? Will your hardware uber gear be on hand every time s/he wants a new kick?

Blah. Here is an awesome list of sample sites:

Your dream kick in there somewhere ... or continue to learn how to make your own :)

You could sample JoBro's Aftershock, it's super powerful. Teragon's Kickmaker is now freeware, it was just listed at gersic.

I plan on sampling Odo's 38911bytes V2.0.

I keep trying but I'm never happy with it, I don't seem to get the snap that really punches through. I need to know what effects I need.
I use a compressor for the kick with attack at 0ms and release about 50ms.
Threshold about -10. I think I need more than that.

Doing dance music, the kick is the most important part but it always sounds wrong. Never loud enough before clipping. It's starting to be frustrating.
All I need is a set of fundamental rules with routing, effects and their settings.

Any straight forward rules for my little brain would be a great help. Thnx.

depends what your definition of the perfect kick is. I never understood why everyone always try to do things like others do. that is the BIG problem with electronic music and why so much of it sounds the same and is boring.

+1

the right BD in general is a combination of sampled BD (a couple of them, filtered in different ways). The subbass (long tailed sound) could be an other kick (sometimes I grab it from r&b songs) with a lot of low content, maybe filtered using a lowpass.
