Well, I'm not pointing out Zebra here as the u-he product of the year clearly hasn't been released yet. This thread is too earlycalex wrote:With these, we always get the IK plug, the Zebra plug, etc.
Like most developers I'm heavily concentrated on a single user account here. You can't remove my stuff from these best-of-lists by stripping disguised marketing posts. They simply don't exist

I would like to add Zebra 2.x as the synth product of the year but it might look suspect ... which it isn't ... it's just a damn fine tool for creating almost any sound and far more capable than the other recently released synths I have purchased this year ...
Tall poppy syndrome perhaps?
Peace,
Andy.

I'm not sure I understand what your saying. I think you mean, I should have listed the reasons why I feel Zebra2.3 is the best08 synth. So I will list them.calex wrote:It could be any list, but just make sure and add in your own company's product to hype and pitch it to others under the guise of some kind of "real" effort to identify the named list, as if that was the point. With these, we always get the IK plug, the Zebra plug, etc. Always somebody plugging their product. If there were just some way to strip that kind of thing out of these discussions, but it's impossible.
I feel Zebra2.3 is the best synth for 2008 because,
1. added 2 mod mapper modules.(good for random modulations)
2. updated compressor modes
3. added sideband module (vibrato is great)
4. lfo's added 3 new time rates
5. turn effects off and on added.
6. comb filters added a new mode. blown. (good flutes)
7. New OSC FX. 5 of them.
8. 11 osc mode.
I think i missed some.
This isn't a plug...it's just my opinion of best synth for 08.
is that ok?
Thanks,
Michael

For me it's a simple choice: Temper by http://www.angryredplanet.com
As a long time user of Reaktor I have a ton of synths and effects that can create & process just about any kind of sound. But for working in the midi domain there are not many create tools outside the standard piano roll with manual edit and some quantize tools in most sequencer (IMHO)...
But Temper gives you some innovative tools to manipulate and mutilate midi in many many ways! You can do fine tweaking of groove timings, implant new keys on imported midi songs or manipulate the velocity with shapes etc etc.
For me Temper takes a step forward by assisting your creativeness - it's not just some random-midi tools but it's much more than just plain edit/copy/past.
Although Temper was released in 2007 some great developments has been made this year... and the upcomming pattern based sequencing will even add more tools for assisting the creative process.
OK, end of message from Temper fan boy

Yes, thats so true. These kinds of threads only ever fill up with the developers cleverly pimping their own products, and absolutely noone else from the entirety of KVR's other 165000 members getting a word in edgeways as a result.calex wrote:It could be any list, but just make sure and add in your own company's product to hype and pitch it to others under the guise of some kind of "real" effort to identify the named list, as if that was the point. I mean its only been a week since the 'best five onepingonly clones' thread, where nearly 200 u-he sockpuppets posted nearly fifty pages worth trying to pursuade us that 'onestripeonly' was a modern classic in the making. God damn them, I say; god damn them all.

To be honest, I don't really get that excited about software anymore so there's far in between anything new that I want. Off the top of my head:
- Symphobia
- Omnisphere
- Melodyne direct note access (not out yet I know).
