Why not just try it out? The demo's a free download.

Yes, it did eventually dawn on me that I could just test the demo. I'm a little slow like that...

Anyway, I got Silent Way DC to work in Sonar with my 828mkII. I do get about 4.5 volts on the multimeter, which isn't fantastic but better than nothing. Apparently the mkIII puts out almost 10 volts, so you'd get a lot better range with that one.

I haven't been able to figure out how to configure Sonar to work with the Voice Controller plugin. I vaguely remember there being some kind of trick for wiring this sort of plugin, but can't for the life of me remember what it was. It needs to receive MIDI control like a softsynth, but also needs audio input and output like an audio effect. :help:

Is that +/-4.5V (i.e. 9V range) or +/-2.25V?

Can't help you with Sonar I'm afraid, but very interested to hear whether it works.

Ok os sort of got the ms20 /Motu 828 1 working by matching the set up on the tutorial.calibration seems odd though.Plugging in outputs 1 from 828 into cv in osc1+2 on ms20 and output 2 into trigger in, is that correct

The MS20 has a Hz/volt pitch input. Silent Way currently calibrates best for volt/octave inputs, but that's something I intend to address very soon.

Connections sound good (assuming you've not got anything else coming out of those outputs - wouldn't 1 & 2 normally be your main audio outputs?).

What exactly do you mean by 'calibration seems odd'?

Post

Motu 828 has master outputs as well 1 and 2. I will try it with outputs 3 and 4 in case. With the calibration it doesn't draw a nice clean upward line like in the tutorial vids but sounds the same. There is like a popping /switching noise when i play a note on my midi keyboard along with the sound of the MS20. I have the ms20 set up to play a square wave with no modulations and a short envelope.I think if you implement the Hz/volt setting i may get better results as i have used a hardware cv/midi converter in the past and it had to be set to Hz/volts to get the old beastie to fire off properly

No, with hz/volt it will be a curve.

Well, the 828mkII is putting out +/-4.5V, but of course that is on a balanced output, so you have tip for +V and ring for -V. According to the Volta discussions on Muff Wiggler, you should build a custom cable which disconnects the -V, and only passes +V and ground to the synth. So effectively you're only getting 4.5V range.

Okay, got Sonar figured out (again):

1. Add an audio track.
2. Add Silent Way Voice Controller, configured as a softsynth, as an insert audio effect to your audio track
3. Set the input to the audio track to be the interface channel with the audio coming from your hardware synth
4. Set the output of the audio track to be the interface channel sending CV to your hardware synth
5. Add a MIDI track.
6. Set Voice Controller as the output destination for your MIDI track.

Tested with TipTop Z3000, Plan B Model 15, Livewire AFG, Doepfer A-110 and A-111. I'm sold!

Awesome! Just need that YouTube video now and you can claim your $50.

I'll update the compatibility page with those modules. Do you want to be credited as 'deastman' or something more meaningful? Want me to link to somewhere (e.g. myspace) for you?

Nothin like a curve on the graph so far. Using the Live set up u posted. Plugged outputs 3/4 into cv in and trigger in still no accurate control, output of synth going into input 3?

sounds right.

earlier you said "I have the ms20 set up to play a square wave with no modulations and a short envelope". would be better if you set the envelope to zero attack & full sustain. or better yet, disable the envelope altogether, if that's possible, and just have the thing constantly producing sound.

Post

Now working (sort of)but plays the ms20 after i release the key on my midi keyboard? ,kinda like a reverse envelope setting but no rev envelope patched in on ms 20, Still wont calibrate ,only can get sound when i stick with the calibration line in the tutorial set up. I am persevering as the Ms 20 is a great synth

Sounds like your cables might be wired the wrong way round.

Cubase (PC) users - please try this one:
http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/downlo ... _win32.zip

which is not a VSTi.

deastman - I'd appreciate it if you'd quickly confirm that this still works in Sonar. Otherwise I'll have to maintain two versions going forward.

This is one of those devs that listens to customers...... I've been helping out with suggestions on how to get it working in Cubase.

Within an hour a solution had been found, working lovely with my Pro-1.... having far too much fun to try it on the odyssey just yet.
