errr.. ya problem is gone. But I did to many things at once and am not sure what exactly fixed the prob.
I was hoping you could let me know if it is possible that invalid DirectX Plugin entries, ie..multiple entries for a single DX VSTi still fully in the registry, could cause assignment problems during the init phase of loading a project?
My SX Projects hangs on reload if I have DS-404 in them

VSTis are identified to the host using a "unique" four-digit ID. Demo versions and full versions, etc. will probably all declare the *same* four-digit ID and I could see it causing havoc. For a indepth analysis though I'd have to contact Steinberg....I was hoping you could let me know if it is possible that invalid DirectX Plugin entries, ie..multiple entries for a single DX VSTi still fully in the registry, could cause assignment problems during the init phase of loading a project?

Don't worry about contacting Steiny. I was just trying to get a general understanding of possible things that could have been going wrong. Do the DX plugs of the same instrument use the same ID as the VST entries?

Aha - sorry, we're talking about DX plugins here. I'd have to look into it.

Ya, in SX there is a plugins list. The first tab has all the VSTi listed. The next tab has all the DX plugs that are registered. It was the DX list that was all nackered up. I NEVER look at that list as I don't use any DX plugs/FX anymore. That list had a bazzillion entries. So even though I was doing un-installs, all the registry entries identifiying the plugs was still in the DX list. So, there were multiple DX entries for every install of every DEMO/Version/Patch for every Instrument/FX that I had ever installed.
So, in this case I had FM7 loaded. I was just wondering if the 3 bad registry entries for the DX versions that were pointing to directories and files that don't exist anymore could cause it to get lost during load. FM7 was higher in the instrument rack than DS-404.
Like I said, I had so many combinations of things happen at a single time because of the amount of registry editing I had to do. I could have accidently deleted the reg entry that was causing the prob and had nothing to do with 404 or FM7.
