Download the tracing version...
http://www.hermannseib.com/programs/tvsthost.zip for the current release version or
http://www.hermannseib.com/programs/bet ... stbeta.zip for the current beta version (not really well documented yet).
This one generates a trace file which contains LOTS of information (as in: multiple megabytes)... and, if VSTHost happens to die, it should also provide information to find out why and where.

Check my various posts in RMV 5.0.4 thread. Rhythmic sound when GUI closed has returned - again it stops when the GUI is re-poned. Contrast seems no different from before still pretty difficult to see changes in the attack, decay area. Still spikes in Live when play is stopped - hikes the CPU by aout 20% for a short burst.

thanx arakula. very useful! (though "multiple megabytes" sounds a bit scary for a trace file :o :D )

Peter and the Gang

Kudos for your work on the RMV 5.0.5 Beta.
Until this update, RMV had turned my DAW (Reaper 3.x)
into a pernicious and contrary beast :bang:

Now it purrs like a kitten!

:harp:

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

The indexing does not make a difference, its more a Windows internal thing, the relevant files are the cache.v5cf files in kits, loops and pads folder. These are usually NOT updated each time, as usually the lib is found to not have changed, it sounds as for some reason the lib seems to be updated to RMV each first start. I'm having no clue about this.

Thanx Peter. I'll try to take a look at the cache.v5cf file(s) to see if something's wrong there.

OK, I think we have a solution here

when looking for the cache files I noticed that windows explorer was extremely unresponsive when opening the Pads folder. I also noticed that once I had open this folder RMV was then loading much much faster. So the problem was probably on the windows/hd side and not RMV.

I moved a lot of files to free some space (yes the HD was almost 80% full) and did a defragmentation.

Now RMV opens in something like 4-5 seconds for the first time after a reboot which is perfectly acceptable.

Thanx for all the support Peter and other LinPlug-ers and sorry to bother you with something that wasnt RMV's fault

Good to hear its quicker now, and interesting too, I wouldnt expect that this could be the reason, but it is. Windows at its best I would say :-D

yeah, arrrrghhhhh :x
I know it's my fault that I had my HD 80% full but still windows' performance was unacceptable given that a) defragmentation analysis was reporting that I don't need to defrag b) The specific OS installation is very clean and fast and c) the PC is pretty strong (q6600 clocked at 3.2GHz)

At least I stayed calm during the days I was trying to find the solution. :D

I don't know but maybe it'd be better if those cache files were somewhere higher in the RMV folder structure and not within the same folder with hundreds of other files.

Re other bugs I didn't spend much time actually using the plugin but noticed something strange when loading wavs in various pads and previewing new ones: when I was hitting "preview" for a new one I was listening to the new one but also to all the others I had previously loaded. I know I'm not explaining it with enough details. I'll do when I come back from my holidays :D

Have a good (rest of the) summer

Hi Peter

Just wondering how things are progressing with the beta - shall we see an update or further beta soon?

I have tested 5.0.5 beta for a while, and found it solves many problems, especially GUI related.

I am having a few crash problems in REAPER though, especially when muting/unmuting tracks sending data to it with anticipativeFX on - looks like REAPER sends a ton events to catch up when unmuting and RMV doesn't seem to like it...

I think we'll release it not later then end of the month.

Dont know about reaper, but will keep it on our list.

Thanks for the feedback. I suppose I should have also asked if the CPU spiking and the rythmic noise will be addressed.

Rythmic noise? Isn't it in the demo version?

It may well be but this is not a demo version and we are talking rythmic in time noise - it appears if the GUI is closed down and disappears when the GUI is open whether or not it's in focus. Seems like I only get it when using loops.
