Squids, "I'm not one to gossip." Come on, relabel this thread, "Squids tells all!!!"

I'm just hoping for your sake that your girlfriend doesn't go on KVR. If she does, you've got some splainin' to do.

Geddy has SampleMoog, Sonik Synth 2, SampleTron... well, he's a keyboard player and bass player (also has Ampeg SVX) so he's all into it. Alex uses various things as well. Neil, not yet. But we've sampled him! Whether he'll use his own samples will be interesting... he actually uses his V-Drum kit to trigger more electronic sounds. So, he did the library with us for YOU.
I love Neil's drum sound (and of course his playing). Which products do the samples of him appear? I'd like to take a listen...been trying to recreate how he plays the cymbals.

We haven't announced it "officially" yet but we're doing a dedicated Neil Peart title as part of our Studio ProFiles Drum Masters series. So it will be something you can use with our Infinite Player plug-in (powered by Kontakt) as well as for BFD. As to when, that is a good question. We're shooting for September/October release (maybe sooner in BFD) and even though we've been a little off with our release predictions in the past (to say the least... no comment pls!!!!) I think we're more accurate when it comes to the newer formats that we control directly.

I have a final mixing session with Rush's producer Nick Raskulinecz scheduled within the next couple of weeks. We're going to get him to mix the grooves AND mix the kit right inside Infinite Player and BFD using the internal effects so you can see what he's done. Cool huh?
Neil Peart drums I can use in BFD2? Wow! Gotta start saving my money, I guess.

Well, we're not saying anyone buys from us to the exclusion of anyone else. We're just talking about the various people that use Sonic Reality products... and in the Sonic Reality forum for people interested in that side of things. But, please note it's our own company forum where we're having this discussion.

Actually, she found KVR once Googling around and there was some old comment about my ex-wife (which I rarely even make) and she was jealous about that! Well, not really. Anyway, believe me, she knows all about the Brooke Shields, Debbie Gibson and all of those stories. She'd just yawn. She's heard them all.

Now, if you want to get into gossip... how about the Chastity Bono session I did (same day Brooke Shields offered to help me move the Mellotron out of my car at George Massenburg's studio, The Complex in West LA). Hard to believe that now she's changing her name to CHAZ and growing a beard. But hey, that's LA too. What a place! There's every unlikely situation you can imagine.

You know one of my favorite name drop stories though is the night we played "Luna Park" with Kevin G and went back to Julian Lennon's house afterward. We were wasted and I remember at around 6am I went into his living room by myself to chill (I do that sometimes at parties that go on all night) and then he comes in by himself, doesn't say a word and sits down on the couch. I look over at him, then look up at the picture of him and his dad on the wall (like most people have in their living room... only HIS dad is freakin' JOHN LENNON!!!!) and then look over at him again and I literally say to myself "How did I get here? Why am I sitting in John Lennon's son's living room at 6am?????". The reason was because Kevin was friends with him and I played in his band but still... it was surreal. A fun experience no doubt. One of a kind.

Hey, once in a while a thread like this has to pop out because unlike some of you who have heard these stories ad infinitum there's always someone new who does a double take and gets into it. They're either funny or bizarre - even hard to believe I bet but they're all true. The Mickey Rourke rap session at my studio in LA... all true! I did my Barfly impression of him doing Charles Bukowski and he really liked it. I'm totally serious. I have an unusual life. But that's how I like it. I seek adventures like that and if I see a window of opportunity for something interesting I usually go for it - as long as it won't get me into too much trouble.

Hey - I was there also. Well - not backstage though. Happened to be in NY on business at that time. Still have the poster mounted and on a wall somewhere in the house. Pretty cool to see all those people in one show even if was just a couple of songs each. The Led Zep reunion was a big deal.
Yeah, I happened to be in NY too at the time so I bought scalped tickets and then convinced some girl who worked for HBO to lend me her backstage pass for hours and hours (she apparently didn't care to go backstage but I was loving it... this was 20 years ago or something like that so it was my first time backstage at a huge event like that).

I was on the side of the stage when Led Zep went on. I remember seeing a Paul Schaffer and a bunch of artists watching Zep from the side of the stage. It was so loud that I thought it went better than it really did (the people that watched it on TV - and I don't think the mix was good for the broadcast).

But, all in one night I flirted with Carrie Fisher, Debbie Gibson, chatted with Bob Geldoff about The Wall, talked with Curt Smith about their long-awaited next album after Songs From The Big Chair (and he said it was like Steely Dan, Beatles and Pink Floyd which I was excited about), I insulted Alan White, I semi-insulted Lou Graham by telling him he WAS one of my favorite singers as a kid (accidentally implying that he's not now... which he isn't but I have to admit that as a young teenager I quite liked Foreigner, Boston, Styx... yes, Styx...). I remember REALLY wanting to meet Genesis but it was a no go. I talked to Chester Thompson though but no Phil, Mike or Tony. Luckily that happened later in a big way and I got to take the ultimate picture with them during their rehearsals (20 years later). Check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sonicreali ... 857749717/ So that MORE than made up for years of frustration trying to weasle my way backstage for a quick hello!

However, back then, when I was in my early twenties I cared more about that sort of thing. It wasn't until my late thirties when I am not so concerned whether I meet anyone anymore necessarily (not that I don't enjoy it but it's not a goal of mine like when I was younger) that all of a sudden I'm texting John Paul Jones and hanging with Tony Banks (my keyboard playing hero growing up) chatting at HIS studio. I never would have thought that. But, still, those things have meaning only to a point. There are much deeper things that have more impact in life than meeting your favorite musicians and various people from TV and Films when you're in a place like Los Angeles. The novelty wears off and what's always more important is the quality of your experiences, not the quantitative "notch" on the belt. It just so happens that there have been a lot of little encounters like that but I wouldn't want anyone to think that's all I do is have superficial relationships with "stars" or something. I am much more into the art of music and film than the celebrity aspect.
