Kim,

Try Amoebe - Outdoor preset. What CPU usage do you have then?

About 18-19%. But it's a crap preset anyway. :)

Actually it made some 'outdoor' sounds really come alive for me. Obviously there is a bug then if it spikes an Intel, but not an AMD. Least this confirms it.

Yes, there is obviously a bug... in the Intel CPU.

i have a p-4 2.4gHz with 512 m ram. i also love what ambience can do, but i run into a lot of cpu problems. i also use rhino a lot so i bring these cpu problems on myself.

i have two ways i can handle this.
i can turn down the cpu/quality on ambience (often 70 - 80% is enough) and sometimes that gets me by
(and when i render to wav file i can crank it back up to 100%)
OR more and more
i audition ambience to get the sparkle/presence/clarity I like and then pull it from the fx chain and use Ruby Amp, Classic Reverb, the eq limiter that comes with Project 5, Blockfish or endorphin to recreate what i get with ambience. somehow a chain of three of the above is often a lighter load on my cpu than ambience. a lot of times two instances of Ruby Amp -- one in soft limiter mode and one in shaper mode creates the 'presence' effect i want from ambience.

i had high hopes for the SIR reverb, but I don't find that I use it that much. Classic Reverb esp. Drum Room preset really works for me.

this may seem like confusing reverb with a whole lot of other things, but ambience seems to provide much more than reverb.

Just thought I'd add some weight to this:

I've got an Athlon XP2800 - Ambience uses about 10-15% cpu at 100% quality setting. No big increase when using the Outdoor preset.

And.. as an aside. What a great plug-in :D I tried it for the first time tonight, and my donation is already on its way to Magnus :)
