its not really about the notes youre using and more to do the the compatabilty of the the 2 different basses and how to gel them in and progress one to another. for instance lets say i am writting a funky house track i have produced a funky slap bass guitar sound and although all very nice need to implement something a bit more digital within it or to progress on to, i would find my desired sound make a preset copy, then try to firstly devise a sub bass so i can playing that sitting underneath the slap, slowly opening the cuttoff frequency filter then just at the point of a break down when the drums have stopped bar the cymbals and the guitar cutts ouot then open up the full sound on youre filter, it may take a few times to get this process right but when you hear it running and progressing through its mint.

another way is to use the trance gate ,say vanguard for example, pick basslines one then when you have a compatable bass line 2 devise a fiting gate set you can automate this to vreate some variation or pace, but at the same point in the tune automate the trancegate to swithch itself off and then bang, you have had a digital progression that then dropped into the tune fluently.

another way is to use waves res filter to open up a sub bass bass sound into its full sound then drop a compatable basslines to

if using bassline as a bass style lead then it may be wise to experiment with this technique, turn legatto on, then when midi programming your notes use a slight over hang, so the notes dont all meet up precisly, then by the overhang bit sit up your pitch bend paramter and experiment with it you will find this will help with them big electro leads or larger bass sounds.
