The drum track isn't 'MIDI'. It looks a bit like it but all it really does is trigger any loaded drum samples. If you want to have drums from MIDI data, use an instrument track & suitable drum VSTi :)

It triggers the samples via MIDI, right? I mean, I can play my MIDI keyboard to trigger the samples. There is no reason why I can't trigger them from the MIDI data I have in a file and loaded into a track then...at least there shouldn't be. Or is my thinking just way off here?

BTW, yes I could use some drum VST to do just what I want, but I also really like the idea of being able to collect kits in one spot and use those however I see fit. In this case, it would be nice to make a good collection of drum kit presets in EnergyXT so that I have the same kits available to me if I am using some MIDI pattern I already have or decide to use the built-in drum sequencer to make a new one. Does that make sense?

Yes it makes sense & I understand what you want to be able to do (I'd quite like to use existing MIDI patterns in the drum sampler too) - but XT2 doesn't do it. I'm pretty sure it has been put down as a feature request in the past and may be simple to implement. But for now, it's either an instrument track with a VSTi or the drum sampler as it is. Maybe in the future :?

Ah well, here's hoping for the future. Thanks for the reply.

Hello, just want to inform you, that last two betas do not start on ubuntu with wine. No problems with older versions.

Post

I know this isn't too helpful but i doubt very much that WINE support will be high on the list when there are native versions available
I know that isn't what you want to hear especially if you want to run windows VST and Rewire and so on but at least there is a native version

So, just because I'm tenacious, I did come up with a way to quickly transfer some of my better drum loops to the built-in drum sequencer. Not sure if it is practical yet, but I did verify that it works.

I just open two instances of EnergyXT, one with the MIDI drum loop and one with the drum sequencer. I route the output of the MIDI one to the input of the drum sequencer one with LoopBe (it doesn't like the routing to take place between the in/out of the same app instance). I added an instrument track to the MIDI instance just to push out CC127, which I set to trigger recording in the drum sequencer instance. And voila!

Now I just need to fix the slight latency problem. Might not end up being practical, but it was fun to figure out. :D

Yes, thats right, but my experience is - the good and polished software starts with wine, others - dont, so i think something messed up..

I'm not having problems with XT2 under WINE at the moment, but I don't use Ubuntu. Not necessarily helpful - but at least you know it starts somewhere under Wine.

I was cynical when the autoupdater was announced, but I have to admit I'm impressed, in a geeky way.

What would be really smart would be if it copied across your global settings so you don't have to try to remember where your VSTs actually live whenever you upgrade...

Although for obvious reasons it'd be a bit pointless to drop all other development to get all bells and whistles into the autoupdater...

all my settings are saved with ever update?

i have buggered up the ini & had to re do all my paths, (now i keep a backup of my .ini) but never has a update lost any of my XT2 settings (win & Mac tested only)

Did you use the autoupdater though?

I'm glad I'm still doing it with the zip, if the auto wipes the settings.
