coquillo has great advice... if you play a series of 2/5/1's, you get Dm/G7/CM (in C)

Switch out the G7 with Db7 and you get a denser harmony. It functions as an altered G7 (adding b9/b5/etc to the chord)
And then try doing: Dm9/Db7/CM9...

I don't know how to illustrate voicings here, but if you use all nearest voicings, it will sound super nice.
