Both work good here, but I still fancy basic64 :)

What about pterosaur ? I never see that mentioned really, and it's a great synth.

Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

olga isn't freeware. gorgeous sound though

pterosaur is on the list ( see last page of OSC12 voting thread ) ... and if Olga aint freeware, then its not gonna go on said list! :)

elek7ro 2. or even better a Togu Audio Line challenge (makin a tune using only their plugins).
there has been one "elek7ro" challenge last year(it was not even an official OSC) but when the synth was not even at version 1.0...when there was bugs , many features missing etc...it had overwhelming partecipation...but just as many ppl didn't make it in (especially for technical problems).
a togu audio line challenge would be best idea imo...although i don't think they made a limiter yet...so i guess that would be the only plugin allowed outside their "production suite".

Anyway guys, while I pause and look over whats going on in the OSC threads, it is apparent that there is a fkn amazing amount of enthusiasm for this comp, and maybe we've grown to a point where we need to have someone other than myself to run comps alongside comps!

It could be good!

It is quite a commitment though!

... But I would love for this to happen, cos I feel there are more and more diverse ideas being funnelled ... or maybe even lost due to the need to tread a particular line/identity.

Maybe its time I pulled on Meffy's shirt tail and got a dedicated thread-zone sorted..... by all means comment on this, it might give me some leverage if that is what we want.

At the moment, whether I post or not, and aside from creating my own track(s), and knocking a participants prize together, I figure I put 15 to 20 hours per week into OSC .... now that we overlap the comps, and at the moment I have a shitload of other stuff to get on with.

Not a complaint!!! I love doing this, and will do my damndest to keep putting in the same time for a long time to come! :) ... but as I say, only by 'funneling' folks ideas can I keep this running at a level I can keep up with.

But there are so many other ways to do a OSC, as is evident from the ideas and suggestions that flood forth from ... well, everyone, that it would be cool if someone out there could gather up some of the alternatives and run with them.
I would, as I've said many times before, be willing to help anyone get going and sustaining a comp in the nature of OSC... I get excited by a lot of the ideas that get thrown in, and like many, become disappointed when they dont get the nod from the folks around at any one time .... but they remain good ideas! .... so, if everyone is as impatient as I am, and I suspect there are many, to get their hands dirty on a particular synth which may never be chosen this side of 2011, then I encourage anyone thinking about it to give it a try! ... it really is a cool place to be ... despite the responsibilty to oversee and be fair to all who warrant fairness!

So ... anyone? Anyone wanna try it just once and only for their fave synth? or run with an idea that has been patted down?

PM me if you like, I may even write a 'running a OSC for enthusiastic beginners and masochists guide!' ... :hihi:

there's also the "OSC14: any one synth" idea which i brought forward months ago..
make a tune using only 1 synth of your choice. whether freeware or not.
the synth used should be mentioned in song title.
an "any one synth" once a year would be nice....at least we are sure there is at leat one challenge a year which will satisfy all.
it's also a chance to see what synths are out there and what they capable of.

.... and as I post, I see a post has arrived from olikana! ... Hi olikana!

Olikana was absolutely on my mind when I wrote about excellent ideas which get lost! he suggested the 'any one synth comp' we discussed about 3 months ago, and a good idea it was! Unfortunately, olikana, whether due to work commitments, or whatever, tends to be the kind of poster who throws a stone in a pond, and doesn't hang around to watch how the water ripples ... and one piece of advice I would def have for anyone who ( I hope ) would want to run an alternative OSC, is .... watch the ripples ... cos they are a sure sign of how much your stone affects the water!
Be there when the water is ready for another stone, and dont let it dry up!

if the next synth to be used has allready been decided what's the point of this thread?
also my "any one synth" idea was posted in a relevant thread 3 months ago..it was said it would be considered after the anniversary synth1 competition...what more could i do? spam it ad libitum in every thread ?
i posted the idea....got positive feedback on it.... why it hasn't been cosidered escapes me.
next synth to be used will be anubis? it's allready ben decided? i'll pass ..

I have to feel useful so I don't think my whole life is a waste.
:P

Because, olikana, other folks had different ideas! I loved the idea ... as did others .. but you told me you didnt want to wait that long, and you would run it in January.

I thought that would have been great, I offered my help, gave you time to think about it, PM'd you, but you disappeared!

I reported your idea in the thread at the time, and you didn't take part in any of the discussion which followed.... in fact there was no post from yourself until the middle of February in a thread which was somewhat apart from the OSC threads, exploring a completely different idea ... and an interesting set of ideas I have to add.... but a set of ideas which were being discussed by folks who were not very much in touch with where OSC was at ... until some active OSCers chimed in!

But, perhaps you are typical of some folks who need to read a bit more over the threads which lead up to how decisions are made.

I run the OSC, but I dont rule the OSC. the OSC is ruled by active users ( note the word 'active' )

Olikana, I have no wish to do battle with you at all. I have been receptive to your ideas, and fought through the negativity of much of your input, and been rewarded in doing so to find behind all that, an enthusiasm and energy you possess which would be fantastic if it were sustained!

But I go with the flow ... not with the splash.

edit: he's right. couldn't remember. was so long ago.

C'mon, guys, don't fight over nothing, leave that to Italians ;-) Let's keep this place friendly - it's unfriendly enough out there... shake hands and make peace :)

Post

Olikana, I dont really have the spare time to gather up the threads, label them, and put them under your nose ... but I assure you, they are there, and the decisions have been, 'chaired' by myself, but guided very, very much by the input of those active in the threads at the time.

Another statistic you may discover if you search for answers to your questions is that I have had more ideas and proposals batted down than you or anyone else .... and that's because, despite the fact I have made more posts than anyone else in all the OSC threads, I dont assume that my ideas are better than anyone elses, and I dont assume that if one of my ideas gets 'voted' down, that the next idea is a non starter .. neither do I maintain that I am right and everyone else is wrong!

To influence OSC, you have to engage ... and stay engaged! ... if only so i can see who is actually suggesting something that may be worth supporting .... as i did with the 'any one synth challenge' ... albeit in your absence!

Post

ok so i take this occasion to bring forward my idea again of a -one off- "any one synth challenge".
making concurrent synth challenges would be silly . i'll wait for osc16.
