Alfalfa wrote:>snip< LawrenceF, where do you still see gaps versus Cubase (being a user of both)?
let me be brash and answer this with:
as it seems there is no unlimited busrouting yet, even in 1.5. you can only route a signal to a bus, but you can't send that bus to another. this is a real basic and a nogo for professional use. unlimited busrouting is a must.

however, studio one will for sure have a bright future, the workflow is simply said stunning, it beats every sequencer i know in terms of workflow.
+1 This was one of my only real super-important requests. I feel really handcuffed with this ommission. Maybe I'm just not being creative enough with the routing possibilities in S1, but the inability to route either tracks into other tracks or to route out of buses is probably the only thing keeping me from moving to S1 permenantly.

As I've seen this very basic and important request made by many other people, I wonder why it has not been put in yet? Still love the direction that the program is heading in.

You guys do realize that Studio One has only been on the market for a year?

If you really like you you're going to have to be patient... it's gonna take a little while.

You can nest busses but it only goes one level deep on the specific track class. Bus -> Bus. From there if you need a third level of nesting you can use an FX bus and that would be the current limit, 3.

But yes, bus nesting is a biggie and it needs to be extended in future versions.
i stand corrected, but the fx bus doesn't have sends, so that would be a limitation, too. to be honest, i don't even see the reson why there's an fx track class at all. as i see it it's the same like busses but they don't have the send section, so i could as well use the busses for fx returns, no?

It's the dream of a Cubase with sensible windowing and no dongle that keeps S1 hopes alive.

Yes it is.

You can do that (use group busses for FX returns) but you lose the benefits of the separate classes, mixer filtering, "auto creating" this and that. Granted, S1 is early in development so for you (if you really need sends on your FX return bus) the drawback in that case might outweigh the benefits.

I mean, (for example) if you drop an effect on a channels send panel it creates a FX track... so if your choice is to use group tracks for FX busses you would lose that functionality.

This is probably a minor thing for most users, but I found loading a non-native vsti to be a hassle compared to, say, Reaper. Maybe I wasn't doing something properly.

Also note that Sugar Bytes' Thesys seems not to work very well when assigning it to another synth track in S1. The gating and velocities are way off.

You just drag it in from the browser. Or you can add one the "harder" way(though it's not really hard) by adding it to the instrument rack and routing a track to it. But the browser is the easiest way, and is at least as easy or easier than any other method I've seen.

Have you tried using the browser?

You should probably report that on their public forum so they can fix it. http://forums.presonus.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47

With output assignments or that kind of thing? Not sure I understand. Just drop it into arrange and if it's multi-out, turn on outputs in the instrument panel (in the mixer).

Still no inbuild pitch correction tool (similar to variaudio in cubase). hmpf..

That's a pretty big feature, and one that even Cubase didn't get until version 5(which is actually like version 12 or something).

I would bet that they will add it soon enough, as I believe they have expressed lots of interest in adding that as well as a way to manage transient stretching like Audiosnap in Sonar or Beat Detective in Pro Tools.

Give 'em time. There are many CORE features they still need to add that are much more important for competing with other hosts.

Fast food generation... they want it their way and right now. Maybe we need to get this guy on the dev team ... ... we'll have Elastic Audio and Beat Detective next Thursday...

We're talking about the current state of affairs, right ?
Imho it's only fair to compare Studio One to the current competition.
Personally I want to do a track in a single host, start to finish.
I have neither time nor desire to play around with various hosts, so I'll resist trying Studio One until these basics are covered, routing, variaudio, some other biggies.
I'll sure keep watching Studio One though ...
One big hindrance seems to be history already - keycommands. :tu:

Two quick questions :
- do you get a new demo period with bigger updates like 1.5 ?
Wouldn't want to waste a unique "once in a lifetime" demo chance right now.
- how do drum editor and wave editor compare to Cubase ?

The only reason I said something is because they said "still no inbuilt pitch correction", as if they have been waiting for years or something. Takes a while to get everything. So if Studio One doesn't have what you need now(it doesn't for me), give it time, and it might. Nothing wrong with comparing though. I was just commenting on the "still" part.

Ok, got you ! :)
That I can certainly relate to.
