Just got Cromina Strings and I must say this comes really close to the Solina Strings sound!! I tried some other VST's that claimed to sound like it but didn't quite make it... this definitely does!!! WOK even threw in the Dream Weaver sound for me!!! :D I'm a happy customer. LOL

Post

Cromina is the best Solina emulation to date.

I agree this was a short special offer - just for the persons following my posts about this upcoming release :)

I can solace people who missed it with another goody to come: I will make a plug with the effect section of Cromina (Chorus, Phaser, Delay - with some extras like 4 different vintage chorus models to choice from).
Everyone who orders Cromina before that release (maybe middle of May) will get this for free.

just bought it, i'm wondering if there will be any cpu optimisations on this in the future
It really punishes my (admittedly a bit older) machine!

If other projects are finished I will try to reduce the CPU load, but due to the construction there will be only minor improvements possible. In the moment I can also see only small interest in this machine (my step sequencer Clockwork had reasonably more orders...

Hi,

I recently get the Cromina String Machine. First, congratulations for this instrument.

My host is Sonar 6 LE, and i have some troubles when i press the stop button during a sequence; there are stuck notes, and have to play these notes to be off. And when there are too many notes, i reach the CPU limit, audio engine stop, and i 'have to restart the audio engine several times.

After reading this post, it seems to be a problem with the way Sonar stop MIDI notes, by only sending an ALL NOTES OFF message. It's not sur but it can helps. If you have an idea about how you can fix it...

BTW, the keyboard tracking knob seems to simply reduce the volume, isn't it ? Why not a filter keyboard tracking, like it have to work ?

Thanks for the reply

If Sonar sends only All Notes Off instead of stopping the played notes, this might be the problem. That's not "the right way" of the host - I have to check weather I can fix this.
The plugin is a little high on CPU. If you play too many notes (or set the release too long) your PC might overload depending of it's performance. Increasing the Asio buffers / latency can help.

The keyboard tracking is for the volume of the higher notes in relation to the lower ones. This was necessary because of the way I generated the saw pulse. The original Solina did not have a filter with keyboard tracking.

It's not a CPU problem, because when i mute the Cromina track, i've the same trouble ( when i disable the mute button, previously muted notes are stucking).
Becaus emuting the audio Cromina track in Sonar mute also the MIDI (guess you understand what i like to explain).

For the keyboard tracking knob, i was more thinking about the way Eminent 310 works, hight frequencies slightly decreasing with higher notes.

As you've said, "this plugin has it's focus on the typical Solina sound", and a completely understand.

If i can make a suggestion for future updates, you can even add a button near the knob, witch will change the way keyboard tracking works ?

Another thing about the piano envelope (witch is a great idea) ; maybe adding a sustain slider.

Once again, that's just suggestions, and i hope it's helps you to add more features.

Anyway, it's a very good instrument, and it's a real pleasure to play with it.

Cheers.

allow me to chime in here and bring some light into this:
the eminent did not have a polyphonic filter, it's a fixed monophonic filter right before the summary enters the ensemble. due to the nature of a fixed cutoff, the higher notes you play, the more overtones are filtered anyway, this is what happens with a fixed lp-filter in generally (given you set the cutoff deep enough. however, the divide down osc of the eminent didn't produce any harmonics over 10khz anyway, as opposed to the solina, which generally was way more obstrusive compared to the eminent 310. the eminent was much much more lush, and one of the rare divide down bbd-stringmachine ones that was stereo actually.as opposed to the public opinion, the solina and the eminent strings don't really share much in terms of sound, they're totally different in sound.
