When I migrated to my new DAW a while ago I "forgot" to reinstall SampleTank. Afer 6 weeks I finally did install it. I have used it once since then. Kontakt is just in a totally different league!

Hey, Jessinator!

I nearly have the same computer specs and have also Kore and Kontakt Player installed and I can say, here it runs really really smoothly!

So, do you use an audio interface or the internal sound card?
If you use the internal, do you have ASIO4ALL installed?
If yes, do you hear crackles or something like this?

If yes, maybe you should check your energy savings modes... "high performance mode" makes a really big difference... I was not able to load Kore Player when my energy savings mode was set to "balanced"... immediately there have been crackles and stuff... but after changing, everything has worked perfectely fine here!

Kontakt is a little expensive for me, but I was wondering if there is a sample library I could buy for the free player that would cover most instruments.

I suppose I could freeze the tracks, it just takes a while...

as it looks to me, it'd take a lot of money to get that many sounds for kontakt. you may not have as much fun picking out and playing off the nuances kontakt offers, but if you're churning out the pop, as i am, sampletank is great. i'd jump in if i didn't already have everything i need from ik (at a great discount). btw, i got a sonic reality 25% off in july notice (delted). it said it could be used for the group buy

Proteus has some good piano sounds but it is a little unstable on my computer. Thanks for telling me about it though, very useful and fun to play with.

I have the Behringer UCA202 and am using the asio drivers. And I am running on balanced BUT I have it set to full cpu etc when the computer is plugged in.

I BOUGHT SAMPLETANK!!!

You guys were really influential, but that comment about churning out the pop is what did it for me. I don't need realistic, I just need exciting/pretty/etc.

Sampletank is a great little workhorse. Try running it through some decent EQ, and a little sympathetic compression, and hear the sounds come alive. Once I realised how to give it that 'hardware' sparkle, it took on a new lease of life for me!

Im using both Kontakt and Sampletank on my Receptor. I agree with the flexibility of Kontakt, but Sampletank seems to load faster and is more stable than Kontakt.

No way.

Even the "old" Kontakt 4 is available as a native x64 version, but the 1/2 decade old ST2.5 isn't yet and won't ever be. Until ST3 comes out, but judging by the past that might be another 5 years.

The sample content of Kontakt is much more sophisticated, also the libraries available to extend it are a) more and b) better.

I have both, and I don't care for ST2.5, it's just too much trouble.
I'd sell it instantly, but as I got it as a freebie in some IK Group Buy - I can't, which is another down side of SampleTank.
