Steinberg officially warned that this will happen when you upgrade. Since they redesigned the mediabay and the storage location of preset information you will not see any of your presets after the update. They said the choice was to put the presets in an easier to find location so that they can be backed up or transfered by the end user easier. It is also due to the redesign of the mediabay.

They warned that your MediaBay database would be blank? I don't recall that.

Bduffy,

psylevation is right : you also have to transfer your VST3Presets folder from Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data to your current Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents one. It is stated somewhere in Steinberg Knowledge base and also in the 5.5 'Version history' file. I forgot to warn you about this.

Don't think that missing this would lead to a blank database, though. I did the transfer before the first start of C5.5 and the only thing that gave me, after this, a clean database has been the operation described in my previous post. So, I think you have to make both of them to get something useful in Mediabay.

Sorry for the omission. Keep us informed about the problem...

Hey, that's cool. I have no doubt that psylevation is right. But I just don't see how this is relevant. My database will simply not populate. I mean, whether I copied my old presets or not, MediaBay should still be able to rescan folders and add additional content. Something is wrong.

Did you get rid of medaibay3.db and scannedFolders3.bin ? If not, I suggest to do the VST3Presets folder transfer and then do so. After this, launch Cubase and go in Mediabay to make it rescan all your relevent folders.

Just do it !

And don't bother about the relevence of all this. The fact is that it looks like the 5.5 mediabat3.db doesn't have the same format as the 5.0/5.1 one and the update program doesn't take care of this. It ends up as erratic results in Mediabay scanning. So yes, I call this a bug or, at least, an omission...

Sorry, friend: are those Windows XP paths? This is where I find "mediabay3.db" (which Windows Search couldn't locate on my entire C drive, btw

):

Is that the right one? I know Steinberg is notorious for switching up their data locations.

Yes, these are XP paths but it seems that you found it. Be sure that there is also scannedFolders3.bin in the same location. If so, take both of them to somewhere else.

Thanks man, I appreciate the in-depth help. I've done all those things and...MediaBay still says I have two drum loops in VST Sound. And no loops in my F:/LOOPS folder. My God.

Something else is going wrong... Are you sure that all the relevent folders are scanned in your F: drive ? Is it a removable one ?

No, not removable, just a secondary drive. But even the VST Sounds folder doesn't show all it's contents. All the switches appear to be set to default, standard settings too. Mind you, the super-mysterious icons don't tell me much; I could have a filter selected somewhere that's saying "don't show any wave files", but I'm not seeing anything like that...

Mediabay + Cubase 5.5 = WTF?
