Im not sure where you're talking about doing this. Do you mean under the 'Patch' dropdown on the MIDI channel for an instrument?lfm wrote:Then I'm a bit puzzled still.
I used have VSampler both as DXi and VSTi installed.
And I had what I consider a bug in VST handling in that they do not list the presently loaded instrument names, but only Mutli 1, Multi 2, Multi 3 as names.
It worked nicely with DXi.
And VSampler VST still lists proper names in other hosts but not in Sonar. I reported this in the Old S4 days, but it's not fixed still in 8.5.
It's very handy to just select a name from a list what instrument you want to run on a track.
I see that working for Knaglis and Slayer2, for example. It depends on the plugin though; it doesnt work with SampleTank.
If you mean something else let me know, I'll have a look. I havent had VSampler installed for a long time though, doubt if I have the installers any more.
TBH that doesnt really make sense to me.That gave me impression they still have not a proper VST handling at root.
It used to be that the engine was basially 'DX', and the VST 'conversion' sat on top of that. Initially it was external to Sonar, then it became internal, then it became an alternative abstraction layer.
Now the engine is not 'DX' its something generic, and the VST and DX 'conversion' sits on top of that as abstraction layers. (Pretty much every host which handles more than one plugin format (including its own 'internal' plugins eg Live or FL) will do it this way, btw)
If there's an incompatibility between a plugin and the host, it has no relationship to where the abstraction layer exists. (Nor does it necessarily imply the problem is in the host, FWIW).
