Well, firstly, thanks for all those who downloaded or listened and enjoyed my song. It makes me really happy that my song has been heard in the other side of the world.
I didn't expect you would like it so much, but watching your votes, i'm very grateful and realized.

I really enjoyed all your OSC27 songs, from ambient to electronic.
All songs were made with effort, none of them is worse than another, this is very important.
For that, keep making music and keep improving yourself if you are not in my final voting list. The effort today, it will be paid tomorrow.
It was a difficult decision. Because all of you have good things in each of your songs.

I made my own voting system to make things easier which i will explain below.

I put all 18 tracks in a list. I removed mine. 17 total.
Then, i made a voting system with 3 stars. This is, i would add one star to each song with this requirements... Feeling, Quality and Efficiency:
  • *Feeling: One star for songs which i liked so much, this is, the song made me feel something. Artistic or emotive expression.
*Quality: One star for songs which sounds great generally, this means good quality of sound, EQ, Compression, Automations, etc. Technical expression.
*Efficiency: One star for songs which were made with a low ammount of instances, this is efficiency from the creator to make a great song with a low equip or a low ammount of instances, i think this is a very important thing. Skill expression.
So, every track could have between 0 star to 3 stars. This made the vote easier, and made me to take from the list only those songs with 3 or 2 stars.
From those 17 tracks, i got a total of 9 thanks to "star system".
From those 9 tracks i only chose those which i really loved.
So i had 5 tracks and i needed to put in order of preference, this was when i listened those 5 tracks again and again to make the final decision.

This is the last list in order and some pros:

  • 5 points - Happy Frog - Surfing with Ballerinas
·PROS: A great sound passage, relaxing and ambiental general sound, great use of soft beat. Great quality and heartfelt song using a low ammount of instances, only 9 instances! That's a great job from the creator! Reminds me to Puzzle Arcade song, a Xbox360 puzzle videogame i really enjoy for relax myself. Perfect length to not bore the listener. Cheers!

    4 points - V'ger - Soma
·PROS: Powerful start and strong bass. Great quality. It made me imagine about a militar incursion in team, impressive. Perfect length to not bore the listener. Cheers!

    3 points - Elipsis - Alphanumeric
·PROS: A great job with automations, retrigger notes, soundtypes and electronic flow. EQ improved in relation to the old entry. This means improving quality, and improving yourself is a good thing in any field. Cheers, dude!

    2 points - Ancient - TokyoClockwork
·PROS: The great and heartfelt "guitar" sound, simply awesome. Great beat flow. Great quality. The "Loop factor", this is, you could play the song in a loop and never get bored or tired, that's a good thing. Cheers!

1 point - Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Tethis
·PROS: Another relaxing passage and a great melody that enters your eardrums, you can't avoid that melody. Great quality. Cheers!

So that's all. I really enjoyed my first experience here.
I also downloaded some tracks from all of your older OSCs, and i'm really very impressed. I put my favourites tracks from those older OSCs in my MP3Player and i really had a great time today listening them in the field.

Well, nothing more to say, thanks for the votes, they are really making me happy, but i'm even happier knowing there are people who likes my song in another part of the world.

Special thanks to:
Elipsis, who liked my song so much and made me happy those days and for voting me with 5 points. Thanks, dude.
V'ger, for voting me with 5 points too, because i really admire you for your present and old tracks. I see you like my older brother, i haven't any older brother really, only a younger sister. That's why i'm really grateful.
KVR, for make those contests, and all the donators for the great prizes.

This is not over yet, so Good Luck to everyone!!!

I have really enjoyed entering my first contest and wish I'd taken part in some of the previous challenges now...great fun. I will hopefully, time allowing, enter a few more.

I would of put several other song in the top five, as I felt some were worthy of that status... but alas had to only choose five.

Here are my votes:

5 - Vivolator - Shut the door

4 - IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep

3 - Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork

2 - Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis

1 - Tattiemannie - Alphabetcha

I'm very impressed at what can be done with a free synth. I enjoyed all of the tracks and the various styles and again impressed with the overall polished sound, mix and arrangements :)

Extremely impressive set of submissions, and very hard to get the list down to 5, but here's my votes:

5 - Vivolator - Shut the door
4 - Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis
3 - Vivolator - The Investigation
2 - Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork
1 - V'ger - Soma

Great work everyone

Many great tracks. Thanks to all for submitting them!

Due to a stressful day, and Happy Frog's license to chill, here are my votes:

5 - Happy Frog - Surfing With Ballerinas
4 - Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis
3 - Vivolator - The Investigation
2 - Happy Frog - Run Replicas
1 - V'ger - Soma

Cheers!

Aaah, the agony...

This was waay too hard to judge as fairly as I would have liked, but I do want to give props to the ones that stood out (to me, anyway)

5 - Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork

There's something about this tune that keeps me coming back to listen. It's a perfect example of how Alpha does 'cool' (complete with shades and everything).
Feels like a quiet rainy day in a big city (Tokyo?). Simple and brilliant.

4 - ellipsis1 - alphanumeric

This one's got attitude. If Ancient's song makes me want to chill and put on my sunglasses, this one's got me ready for tattoos and piercings. Agressive, sync-like sounds using the oscillator symmetry are very underexplored sounds in Alpha, and I'm glad someone made that aspect shine. Alpha to the (hard)core!

3 - V'ger - Soma

Damn, that guy (or girl?) can dress up a synth! You could have entered this one in almost any of the challenges, and I wouldn't have known any better. A little too even throughout for my taste, but the abillity to make Alpha shine is impressive.

2 - edteneyck - Alpha 23

As much as V'ger track disguises the Alpha sound, this one celebrates it unabashedly. Fun and dynamic, it has a chord turnaround that just kills me. Plenty of Alpha classic patches in there and they're used in an interesting way. Nice.

1 - RuediRena - Free Kindergarten Alpha

Kind of an odd choice, admittedly, but I keep hearing the fun that went into this one. That's the main object of the OSC (at least to me), and it comes through. Fast and frantic in a cartoon-ey way, I start grinning from ear to ear everytime I hear the opening bars.

A couple of other tracks I liked but didn't have enough points for:

Doc Jon - Dirty weekend in Blackpool

Something straight from the Alan Parsons or Mike Oldfield playbook, the melody impresses right off the top, but seems to have a little trouble finding a climax. A great mix and that amazing hi hat made it a contender, but it lost out to RuediRena's fun factor.

Yeager - Previou5ly

Good ideas throughout the track, but actually too many of them for me to understand the 'identity' of the track. From a producer's point of view (and this is my own personal preference, of course), I'd take the strongest ones and condense the song down to about half it's current length. The mixing is superb, however, and I'd even look into a vocalist collaboration if I were you.

Happy Frog - (both tracks)

Definitely nice 'chill' tracks, and interesting patch use, but I was hampered by the fact that I couldn't decide between the two of them. The chords provide an interesting tension in contrast to the calm of the mix.

ParadoxUn - Disco

First one on the board, and a good dance track. Unfortunately, in this case Alpha doesn't do the song justice. I want to hear it again with a full blown production, preferably in a club.

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep, Hemmick Reef - FreedomForAlpha and Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis

Nice tracks, excellent mixes, and some really good ideas, but I'm already pretty chilled out from Happy Frog's submissions. But if I'm wound up, you'd better believe these'll all end up on my playlist :)

As for the submissions I didn't get to, I'd like to say that every track has been enjoyable to listen to, and I'm kind of thinking of this less as a contest and more of a potluck dinner, where everyone brings something and everyone picks what they like (note to self: Get lunch soon). I'm glad that people found inspiration in the Little Synth that could, and I hope Peter and the rest of the folks at Linplug are happy that their creation still finds a place in peoples VSTplugins folder.

Cheers, and thanks to all,

STV

I hope I spelled everyone right.

These are the top 5 point wise. However as stated by others it is hard to judge. Simple because they were all great. And some really great beats and deep bass sounds, really impressed me. I think the sound of Alpha is unique and very enjoyable to listen to. This was hard to choose.

Disco stood out to me as a way cool vibe track.

Dirt weekend in Blackpool had an 80's synth vibe, thank you for that, cool sounds.

Soma had a melody and hook that complimented the aggressive tone, very good.

Tokyo Clock is a brilliant song with deep Trip Hop sounds.

Shut The Door This sound has a build up to some awesome chord sounds, and 70's synth leads, very warm sounding.

5 ParadoxUn Disco
4 Doc John Dirty Weekend in Blackpool
3 V'ger Soma
2 Ancient Tokyo Clock
1 Violator Shut The Door

Hey guys, great tracks, all of them, but these were my favourites:

5 - IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep
4 - Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork
3 - V'ger - Soma
2 - Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis
1 - Vivolator - The Investigation

It was a pleasure to listen to all these tracks again and again, and yes this was (again) a very hard OSC to judge but somehow I managed to boil it down to these 5.
As already said by others, there were a lot more tracks that deserved points.

Thanks to you all and good luck.

Here are my votes:

Yeager - Previou5ly: (4-5)
Get rid of that number in the title;) I missed a little intro at the beginning but all in all nice composition. I like all the sounds you used (especially bass and percussion/drum)

Hemmick Reef - FreedomForAlpha: (3-4)
This piece didn't click with me at first. But the more I'm listening to it, the more I like it. Nice ambience, but at the end I missed something (although I can't tell you what it is). The bassline is IMO a little too much in the background and so are the drums.

V'ger - Soma: (4)
Powerful start, lots of different sounds.
(I don't know why but at the end it couldn't stay in my playlist.
Perhaps because there's actually a lot going on. Too much for listening inbetween;)

Vivolator - The Investigation: (5)
Like the beginning. Incredible ambient feeling with that "sonar" like snare sound and also all the other sounds. Powerful ending...
(it's in my playlist)

edtenyeck - alpha 23: (2-3)
I don't like the beginning with the kick, but it's getting better as other sounds kick in. All in all nice sounds but I don't like the composition. It's a bit chaotic and doesn't lead anywhere...

Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis: (4-5)
Nice sounds, nice composition. Like the "sonar" sound "kicking" in at the end.
(it's in my playlist)

Doc Jon - Dirty Weekend in Blackpool: (4)
Not my kind of style, but nice sounds and composition.
(would have make it to the top five, but I decided to give points only once per person)

elipsis1 - alphanumeric: (4)
Nice one, but somehow it's missing something. It was in my top five but at the end beaten by others. It's a nice dubstep aproach but I couldn't stand to listen to it more than once in a while. Perhaps because of the arrangement/structure, chords progression (I really can't tell you what it is...)

Vivolator - Shut the door: (4)
(would have make it to the top five, but I decided to give points only once per person)

Tattiemannie - alphabetcha: (3)
Didn't like at first (because of that old video game style) but it's a really nice composition and some interesting sounds.

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep: (5)
Easy listening. Simple and effective.
(it's in my playlist)

RuediRena - Free Kindergarten Alpha: (1-2)
"I know you can do it better." In any case, make it last longer...

Happy Frog - Surfing With Ballerinas: (4)
I really like this one and would definetly like to go surfing with ballerinas (whatever that means)

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Fantasie for steel pans: (1)
Like the title but I don't understand the fantasies of steel pans. The beat is way of which makes it really hard to listen to it. Maybe otherwise it wouldn't be that bad.

Happy Frog - Run Replicas: (4)
Nice ambient piece again. But I missed some more sounds, maybe some slightly hihats or some fx/percussion here and there.

Ancient - Tockyo Clockwork: (4-5)
Nice calm intro. I like it how the bass kicks in and also the lead sound in the middle of the track. Also nice break/interlude. Listening to it I really forgot about that it's all done with one synth.

ParadoxUn - Disco: (3-4)
I like the track but at the end too less progression and too repetitive.

Here's my end-result:

5 points: IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep
4 points: Vivolator - The Investigation
3 points: Yeager - Previou5ly
2 points: V'ger - Soma
1 point: Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork

"and twelve points ..go to.. ...CapDan..."

Yeah, congratulations Ancient! 8)

So I guess the top 6 get prizes from Linplug?

How do the prizes normally work? This is my first OSC contest.

Looks like there are lots of nice prizes :)

Normally the top 1/4 or minimum 4 songs of the field get prizes, but since we got offered 6 prizes from Linplug, top 6 will get this time. But this means that if someone from the top 6 wants something else, then one of the Linplug licenses will be forfeited and not passed on. (Sorry Doc :? ).

And forgot to thank all who voted and commented on my track, very happy with 4th this round. 8)
