Call me simple-minded, but, I like to work with nice hardware style GUI's like the ones UAD, Waves, Softube, Bootsie, etc make. I think they are the best looking GUI's. I honestly think Ableton looks like a toy.
+1 Couldn't agree with you more! They just look so more professional when they have a hardware look to them for some reason? Not that looks really matter when your making music anyway though. But I must admit that I am a GUI junkie and I like it when they look like hardware. 8)

Howdy once again,
Here is an audio demo.
Ideally it should sound like a bass guitar.
It is not as full, but do you think it has promise?
This is played on a Les Paul Standard.
Drums by Abundance->

.wav d/l->
{OK, I took this down it was terrible, u can still get the drumming}
It has no fx, but is quantized.
There is a warble on volume, not pitch.
This is coz the 1000 samples granules are 'end on start'.
It's a fade in there, otherwise a click.
Let me know f you think this is worth pursuing :)
Much cheer!(and abundance)
Thanks bplog for the link, it's eye candy!I will take it for a spin
edit-
OK here is SiriusTree's drumming properly quantized, I found the right version->
sorry-must have deleted this file at some stage. PM if u'd wish to hear it
This is just the drums, in case you were dissappointed at the tightness.
The octaver is back up on blocks, I keep at it

OK,
I stopped working on my one 4 now.
I used instead another one. This is a different algo from the shifter of mine u can get at Rekkerd.
Here is Win32bit VSTfx-
edit-see first post
Here is GUI-

It's a thicker bass than the old one.
Cheers
edit-fixed link to Sirius drums
The octaver has 3 lines, switchable parralel and serial

If you want my opinion about the GUI, green or red numbers with black background, green or red LEDs, and the sliders are kinda ugly :)

Looking good though!

up^^
37 downloads, any comments(ie. is it working, and decent CPU use)?
I can't really mod it much, apart from setting grain length.
Do youse like the skins?
Cheers 8D

The new GUI is very nice, but the plugin itself does a poor job of tracking an electric guitar. It sounds very artificial and does not track well. Even the octaver and whammy emulations in Amplitube (which I always found to have problems tracking) sound better to me. Maybe others like the lo-fi digital sound to it, but I'm not a fan, at least of this iteration. I don't know if the plugin already does something like this or not, but maybe of you took the input signal, split it, and passed one of the splits through an eq or filter that boosted the fundamental tone and cut the harmonics, and used that as a control signal for the frequency shift, it might work better? Hope that that's of some help.

Post

Thanks man,
I'll see if I can improve it.
Sounds like some more testing is in order.
That's good that it sorta works though.
hmm, it's hard to tell what the fundamental coming into it is,
45 notes range.
hmm, I can run a shallow bandpass though and see if it cleans it up.
Thanks for the feedback chap
I'd also like to speed it up hey.
edit-OK I just checked it with a tuner, yeah it's sucky, I'll see what I can do. Seems like the GUI and controls might be a decent shell though.

Yea, I like the lava skin. I don't have my guitar with me, so the best I can do is test with VSTi. My impression is that the tracking is not that bad, but the transposed product is very grainy. Also, there's a delay when transposing 2 octaves or higher, or is that an undocumented feature? :P

but hey, all that mess can sound good too 8)

Stoked u guys reckon the skin is 'ite.
I have got the tuner out and fixed it.
Will up within half a.
I think the delay is a little worse.
I can play in realtime however, just using as an octave lower, bass-like.
My latency is 64 samples though.
Jeez louise I have one octaver that glitches like f#%c. So bad for ears and speakers. I think this one is right to use though, it hasn't done that ever.
I'll flip the shadow around on the sliders too at some stage. It's wrong.
Cheers brb
Yeah can't do much about the digitalisation, but check the pitch is right when I up. hmm, will try the bandpass maybe.
I can try my home brew algo again, but these guys are more capable than me. My method works on resampling float arrays. It work sorta.
edit- here 'tis->
<edit-see first post>
I just modded the lava skin, if you'd like the purple one let me know
I'll drop in w/- the purple one soon

My advice is to keep one jack, unplug the other and use a different Japanese BOSS for the logo.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

The LL scheme almost matches Renoise's default colors, so it should fit in fairly well here.

I'll let you know if/when i get a chance to test this out.

Thanks!

If it ends up working well, and/or is interesting, it could get a lot of use.

Your competition here is MadShifta. Hopefully this one can surpass MadShifta in its utility.

Say, what if you added a multiband frequency splitter, then allowed pitch adjustments to each of the bands? lol... Would that be a lot of work to implement?

yada yada... i'll try to get back to you on this.

Thanks again...

Sorry man, I didn't mean delay as in latency, but as in echo. Am I the only one?

Post

Nah man,
I noticed that too.
Not sure why it does that.
Maybe I can call character, but I will try and get in touch with the coder and send him the GUI and ask about the echo.
Cheers
I'll think about splitting out the bands and shifting separately.

Heya-
I got this working a lot better.
See the first post for dowload link.
Price is $8 for a pro license.
The download is uncrippled.
So what I am doing now is taking a grain of audio
as a float array, then resampling it,
before rendering back into audio.
Hope u like it,
I am pretty stoked that it works so good.
No pops and minimal phasing.
There are 2 buffers, one is writing,
the other reading.
It gives 1500 samples delay,
which I have found is acceptable to turn
an electric guitar into bass in real-time.
Have fun!
