You won't get technical advice from me
Just stopping by to join the party (I heard the buzz) and confirm that I enjoy the loose west-coast vibe of this excellent song. Great sounding guitar and expressive vocals.
Nicely done

I wondered about the tuning but forgot to ask. Is that DADDAD?

Very nice work on this. Just enjoyed it again. Thanks.

yes that's the tuning.
thanks DH
and thanks for dropping by Laguna!

i must admit the tuning hit me like a hammer at first but after like 4 bars it felt very natural and fits the song like a glove.
Cool psychedelic folk-has that "Tomorrow never knows"-mantra like quality.

I just occurred to me why that tuning feels so natural to me.
It's DAD - DAD can I have $20 to do whatever

:hihi:
Hey thanks for the listen, Dr Wu

Only $20 dollars? It's usually $200 these days minimum

Hey thanks for those good words peeps! :)

Always a pleasure to work with the Dad!

I just scared the crap out of myself. I could see my face in my monitor. Then I remembered "I don't have a webcam". And then I realised that this track was so polished, I was seeing my reflection in this thread.

This is GREAT! Amazing stuff.

Just joining in the 'reprise' party here.

Great song, overall ... it's right up my street, and I certainly get the Crosby vibe in it.
At the time I did vote this into my top ten.
I would have placed it higher but for one thing. (Sorry, I'm not used to being critical .. it goes against the grain ... but I have learned so much from other crits) There is a quality about this piece which is something that I am often accused of. ... Sloppy timing :(
I usually recognise this, in my own work, when I multi-track everything myself. When I collab I think that I probably make more of an effort as it involves other contributors. To me this sounds less like a collab (in that sense). 8)
Forgive my frankness.
It's still a superb piece of work.
Thanks for sharing.

well, I didn't expect a bump, but thanks alex!
Thanks for the comment, seismic1, much appreciated.
and thanks for the criticism, offthewall..it's taken in the spirit
given..also not the first time I've done some sloppy playing..I play
guitar and keys, neither of them well. :hihi:

Because of the bumps and such it came to my attention just now....and for that I am, really glad. Very tasty piece of work in my assessment and the loose timing is not an issue for me - in fact it adds to the feel and fabric of the piece.

Well done.

Dan
Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

Thanks James & Dan!

It's great to receive critique that's meant to be helpful and constructive, no doubt -- especially from an experienced collaborator like you James. I reckon we need more of that here and a bit less back-slapping because ultimately we're all striving to make our tracks as good as we can.

I used to love it in the contests when others would say something like: "In my monitors it sounds like you could do with a narrower bass and more stereo field in the mids" or "It sounds like the tempo is out of sync at around 2:19" or something helpful like that -- a technical critique -- rather than ultimately useless and completely irrelevant comments like: "It's not my cup of tea" and so forth (just another way of saying "I don't like it" and just as needlessly disparaging).

The more I listen to this tune, the more I realize what I could have done better. For instance, I think I could have used a less-enforced beat for the D&B and perhaps float them a bit around Gary's solo -- maybe make it less 'mechanical' sounding.

Ultimately though, it was our first 50/50 collab and I think we're getting lots better. Number two is coming up and I can promise you it's a killer track. :tu: This is the American 'Thumbs Up' -- not the UK one. :hihi:

AND I want to add that several years ago I chose one of Gary's tracks to do in the contest where we had to do a cover of another KVR artist's song, and I had to abandon it after failing to do it anywhere near the justice it deserves -- probably one of the best original songs ever heard in KVR -- Blue Dad's Bleeding World with lyrics by ET. Sometimes you just know when you need to hang it up -- and that was one of those times for me (some perfect things should simply be left alone).

You're right, Alex, about technical comments. Years ago it used to be like that. I'd post stuff and would be cut to ribbons in short order, lol! Sadly, I don't know enough to give technical advice (or sometimes understand it when given!).
After 30 something years, I'm looking forward to hearing the final of our new tune! :hyper:
and thanks for all your encouragement. I would have loved hearing your version of 'Bleeding World'

30 years already??? :-o :(

I'm sorry -- I had no idea it's taken me that long. I promise I'll slap a quickie on it -- maybe be done in 2010 I swear it! :tu:

:hihi:

It was a least a week's effort and, at the end of it, I was just "Man, it's nothing more than a crap cover of a great song" and I trashed it right then and there.

It's kinda like trying to copy a famous oil painting -- sometimes, in the end, it's always just gonna be a cheap imitation no matter what you do.
