I agree. just excited to see what they do with 9

Post

When is Live 9 expected ? soon ? or ....

Post

I find no appreciable limitation in 8 and don't care about when 9 comes out...

hope there is sysex support
and separable mixer, the 1 window thing drives me crazy on 3 monitors
envelope shapes(exp, lin, log)
groups inside groups or proper bussing system
a real drum instrument not relying on racks with exclusives channels and proper multi outs so i dont need a midi track with an additional 12 outputs grouped together by sound (3 audio tracks in a group for hats, that i'd need to group in the drum bus but can't, etc) just to have volume control on those said sounds

also fixed lenght recordings in column mode would make live looping easier by not having to worry about the end recording press

a way to delete via MIDI (thats the ONLY command not available for maping :()

that you can do by placing empty clips in advance

Post

for MIDI yes, but for audio IIRC you can't, but really, that's the least important for me as i don't really do looping anymore, but that was just one of the things that always bothered me a little with live

also, frigging track name goes on the LEFT, or at least user defined

Me too - why did they call it Live ffs??! Maybe some of us might wanna use it in realtime with external hardware... [/unintelligible rant mode]

Agreed on the option of separate mixer also, but mebbe the one window thing is such a core feature of Live that this is a forlorn hope.

Oh, I'd like to see a bundled reverb that doesn't sound like a guy with kidney stones peeing into a tin bucket (ymmv of course). I have 3rd party reverbs, but it's nice to have an "in the box" solution if you're doing a collab, etc.

Aside from those and a few other niggles it's still my preferred creative environment though. I didn't do the v.8 thing as I'm wary of being an early adopter (and in hindsight I was lucky there) so it'll take a fairly big deal to tempt me to update from v.7 to v.9. Certainly more than the option of buying into some "value added" third-party tie in...
"are we there yet?"

-this discussion is endless at the Ableton forums, but why not in fact bring it here-

top priority for me : be able, at last, to record automation in session mode (!!!)

then 64 bits

plus / :

- direct integration of video and graphics / what is already possible via a bunch of really usefull M4L tools managing the jitter integration (vizzable, v-module, etc)

- be able to process directly any selected frequency band (once again, this can already be done via M4L) and m/s content

- multidimensonnal crossfader (not limited to 2 sources)

- a tool à la Kapture that would also record which clips are being played (not only tracks parameters).

Get at least the 8.2.5 update ...

Multi-channel MIDI per cell rather than individual cells/tracks/channels.

For Me. Live is a valuable studio tool. But v8 was so full of bugs. I wouldn't trust it Live at all. I still use it for sorting out tempo changes and some writing. But I wouldn't be out DJ-ing with it...

LMAO, since there's a "Tin Can" preset (or some such) that I find useful for just that type of effect. But yeah, it's crap! There are some great third-party verbs for cheap (ValhallaRoom and EOS are only around $50 US), but that, a decent EQ, Compressor, Limiter, should be part of any DAW. I can use those last three, but not that verb.

I'm wishing for automation curves - love having clip automation (Logic's automation being tied to the arrangement, not regions").

That, and an option to "play out" clips in session view without resorting to removing the stop button, dummy scenes, weird off-beat clip endpoints and follow behaviors, yada-yada. Really comes into play when you got CPU hungry plug-ins and want to freeze tracks, only to loose the reverb tail on that last note!
