Best way to incorporate an iPad into a DAW?

I use the camera connection kit along with a special pass through plugin that allows for a small usb connection so that you can use the data port AND plug it into an electric outlet.
I use a Presonus Audiobox USB which attaches to a powered usb hub. It has high quality inputs, outputs and MIDI IN/OUT that work. I plug a USB keyboard (a M-Audio Axiom 61) into the powered hub (or you can use a MIDI cable plugged into the Presonus Audiobox USB) and then plug the hub into the iPad (I use the faster iPad2) USB connection.
That's it. Now you have a fully working audio/MIDI solution for the iPad.

So with this setup you are ablet to play ipad synths / apps with the M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard. But what about using the Ipad as a controller (using SP pro for example...or even lemur) hard wired via midi cable into a midi interface, rather than wifi?Karmacomposer wrote: That's it. Is this possible?
cheers

It works more or less as if you have connected it to a normal pc or mac so yes it is possible.dixie237 wrote:So with this setup you are ablet to play ipad synths / apps with the M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard. All apps that support core midi will now have the midi ports onthe axiom available in their setup pages.
I use mine with an m-audio uno & the CCK into my daw. I use Lemur hard wired and it is superb.
No, that Glitch is meant to be there.....

Cheers mr bastard...
...that's what I was looking to hear.
I think I'll get the new tascam unit when it comes out and plug that into my motu midi interface.
Cheers again for reply, I look fwd to hard wired lemur action.

Not at all, you can connect any MIDI device with MIDI DIN connectors to iRig MIDI and use it with any app that supports CORE MIDI.dixie237 wrote:Am I correct in saying that you can use the iRig MIDI to connect iPad, with Midi lead straight into my midi interface, then have that show up in my DAW?D.Josef wrote:I think the most popular setup currently is IK's iRig MIDI for MIDI input, and some jack adapter such as IK's (who else, haha) iRig Guitar rig for sound in and out. The IK website says " iRig MIDI connects Midi keyboards, drum machines, drum pads, pedal boards and more to an IOS device"
No mention of hooking up to a regular midi interface hooked up to a DAW..
...AM I missing something?

Does this allow you to charge/power the iPad whilst using audio/midi input via the 30 pin dock? Could you provide any specs or a link to this 'pass through' that makes this possible... sounds ideal!

What's the special "pass through plugin" that you use.
Many thanks in advance,
Damon

Hi SuperFly76,SuperFly76 wrote:I have the USB camera connection kit. For kicks I decided to try hooking up my old, long discontinued, M-Audio Duo - 2 in 2 out USB mic pre interface, and it works with the ipad! I remember thinking it was class compliant. The ASIO drivers were terrible on windows, but I have been using it as my main audio card on my non-audio computer. Amazingly, I've been using it with windows 7 (64 bit even!) for a long time. Glad that I can also use this with the iPad. The M-Audio Duo is a real solid piece of kit with decent sounding pres. Now I can just take it out with the ipad and have a killer little portable recording kit. Too bad it doesn't have midi.tommy_d wrote:http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb12/a ... ce-ucx.htm
(you'll need an eSub to read the whole review)
It's not particularly cheap but it got a good write-up from Sam Inglis.
I've never used one of RME's USB or Firewire interfaces but I've been using their cards for a while and I can testify to their quality.
are you sure M-Audio Usb Duo is working with iPad and CCC?
I ask because I also have this interface but no recent driver update from Avid prevented me from using it in OS X 10.7...
It's considered a legacy product so no more driver update...
The last one for Mac OS X 10.4 is dated 2006...
I assumed Duo is not usb class compliant, but if you are using it with iPad maybe I'm wrong...
Could you confirm your system is working ok?
Thank you
