like the lofty and spare interweaving of parts quality of this. Some beautiful notes, which is what it is all about.

This was quite a simple track to record, but, 2 years later during the remix, I kept asking myself "Does it need a lead?", or "Does it need an electric piano?". There was a great temptation to add stuff to it, which I don't really think would have been a good idea. In the end I just added the cymbals.
a wise decision , on your part ...
the appeal of this track lies in its simplicity ...
that little bass motif is wonderful , and it so carries the track ...

Fantastic, just fantastic. It's as if you've distilled everything that's enjoyable in your music and presented the essence of it here. Seriously good work, Tim - I don't know how you're going to top this one, but I look forward to your next piece just in case 8)

Thanks for listening and comments fatc. I think the general concensus on this is that "less is more" :)

Most of my tracks are beat-based, and I usually like to go for a dense, layered structure, so this was an excursion into almost uncharted territory. Hopefully I will find some more time to experiment with this style when I clear my remix backlog!

Wow, definitely my fave from you as well.

The sound choice here is absolutely spot on, and the overall ambience is gawjus!

Once again it just shows that sometimes less is definitely more!

Gonna have me some more listens! 8)

Wow. This is a wonderful comment, Mike. I really appreciate it

I'm never sure that I can ever top the previous track (in fact, I'm usually fairly confident that I won't). Different people see different things in music, and I am no exception to this rule!

But this track was my watershed moment. I "knew" that whatever came after this would be an anti-climax.

My next track marks the beginning of my first "searching" phase. After Qattara, for some reason I decided to change the way I put tracks together, thinking that it would give me a fresh "end result". I was becoming frustrated with my workflow, even though my music/hour worked ratio was improving. I tore down the walls, assuming that everything would work out well. After 3 tracks using the new workflow I was really depressed and entered a period of "self-doubt", where I threatened myself!!! with giving up on music completely. Let me tell you, this was not a nice place to be. For an entire month I got no satisfaction with music and was really hacked off with the entire enchilada. You are about to be subjected to the results of this experiment, although I shall put these tracks through the usual Seismic revisitation process, and, who knows what may happen? They might actually become semi-listenable. I think that the discerning listener may well realise what was going on without this preamble. Let's see what happens. As Neil Peart once said, "The point of a journey is not to arrive".

Eventually I realised that "change for the sake of change" is never an ideal that should be pursued seriously, no matter what some apologists in the corporate world may say. I should have known better, but I was still full of self-doubt and, probably, many other insecurities as well. I didn't have much faith in myself, is what it really boils down to.

But I'll tell you something. Once you emerge from the other end of that long, dark tunnel, life as an entire package (not just musically speaking) suddenly feels so much better and the strength that can be drawn from such an experience is so reassuring.

I hope all of this waffle makes some kind of sense to somebody.

PS. This is not a rant or anything like that. I just thought that some of you might like a little personal history. I have seen a few threads on KVR regarding writer's block and self-doubt, and thought that I really ought to contribute to the discussion. It can be a positive experience. You just have to make up your own mind that you really want to see it through.

Mike, getting back to your original comment. I do intend to top this one, but it might take a little while, given the number of projects I have on the go right now :)

when peeps are woodshedding, or just plain giving up for a while, or taking time out to do things differently, the next leap can't help but be higher....the experience, just living/being over that time when stuff isn't happening counts for something....motorcycle maintenance will help your music :D ....sounds like rubbish I suppose but that's what I tell myself.

That was a certainly a strange time. I think I was seeing a "solution" to a problem that didn't really exist. Once I had figured that out, I could get on with the important stuff.

Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for understanding, fatc

 Actually, I like the cymbals, it gives a 'Rainbow Dome Musick' feel 8)

Tim, I know where you're coming from with the whole block/lack of confidence thing...been there myself, and it's not a nice place to be. I'm glad you've realized you were trying to fix a problem that didn't exist, and I look forward to your new stuff. It's funny, but a side benefit of having more confidence in one's toons is an easing of GAS - I still get sucked in occasionally by a shiny new synth or effect, but...not by every, single, shiny new synth or effect :D

I had a feeling that you would like this one

I'm currently working on a remix of John Cage's 4'33", but with a twist. I'm going to embellish it with 7 drumkits and not stick religiously to the original score :hihi:
