I think one of these days, I'll buy one. I'm listening to some sound demos at the moment, and the distortion & phaser effects on the electric Pianos that the Korg Kronos has sound pretty amazing. I think I've even heard a few of the organ demos. The more I hear about this synthesizer/sequencer workstation, the more I'm convinced that I should eventually buy one. I am going to eventually move to South Dakota this year, and I might use some of the money I earn to buy one. I think from the Korg site, it has a plugin that (I think) gives you not only full control of the workstation itself, but also allows you to record the sounds the Kronos has in any popular DAW today. I'm not sure this is true, but I think it is. As for the sequencer, according to the parameter guide, you get the capability to record up to 200 songs, and I think that if you go over that, you're able to save your other songs to a flash drive or external drive, and each song can last up to 999 measures, and can contain up to 400,000 events as far as MIDI events are concerned. I'm curious about the KARMA package though. I think it's pretty cool that the Kronos system is able to import DX7 SysEx files, as long as the bank has 32 sounds each. The organ sounds on the Kronos are A M A Z I N G! Even the "Rotary Speaker" effect is unbelievable. It has so many features that I like.

Pretty old thread here...
KronosX is my main board.
Pianos are great, especially the electric pianos. Korg just put out an update which also improves the organ engine. Guitars, I can't quite give it the best they ever did but some of them are good. Still looking at the some Kontakt sets to fill that need to my tastes. (The guitars I had in my TritonEX seemed better). I'd love to have three or four of them If I ever won some lottery or something. I buy my VSTs based on complimenting it though. KLC works well in that regard of course. Alchemy adds another dimension (although I get some Alchemy type sounds from the Kronos too). Zebra seems to back up my VSynthGt more and compliment it that way. I'm doing more experimental type of things in Reaktor and just starting to add some Iris in the same vein of more experimentation too. The rest of the instruments I add ITB are geared toward the realistic orchestrations and ethnic instruments, so I can free up the Kronos more for other things, But the Kronos strings are quite excellent and its been difficult to match or find those that blend as well with them. Fortunately, each set seems to at least have a place in the setup.
The reason I say all this is when I think about how much money I have to put ITB to adequately match the Kronos engines, I might be able to find one of the first Kronos used for about the same cost or less. But that wouldn't mean I would dump my favorite VIs any time if I ever got a second one.
But to this old thread and OP, yeah, KronosX is every bit as powerful as it promises to be. I highly recommend it.

Well then, it's settled. I am going to start looking into finding a good place online to buy one. I intend to buy the 61 key version. I could get one on Ebay, but I'd rather get it from a reputable person at a reputable place. Any suggestions?

yes most certainly IMO.
scored a used 61 key Kronos X for $1900 USD. my main interest sound wise was the PM and VA. otherwise i was interested in getting a piece of equipment that was reliable for live performance. i've never owned a workstation and honestly never would have thought i would. i love my software and i love my hardware including my two homebuilt, analog modulars. but i've never owned a decent keyboard and the keys on the kronos are luxurious to me. i'm not huge on samples especially "normal" stuff like pianos but the sound of them in the kronos is quite excellent to my ears. mostly i was looking for something that i could program to get the weirdness of my softsynths (absynth, fm8, alchemy, tassman, string studio, massive, reaktor, etc, etc). it can't do all of what reaktor can. but it is an amazing and particularly inspiring instrument for me. and i haven't gotten that far into it yet (haven't loaded my own samples nor have i created any combos just yet) after i get deeper into the programming i will be even more excited to own one. YMMV
