Seriously, you might want to download some of their freebies and try 'em anyway. I can speak from personal experience that, every once in awhile, they just stick some Camel Credits in your account, and that -- combined with a sale or coupon deal -- is A Very Good Thing.

tried to emulate camelspace with a chain of effects before and it just wasn't working. I ended up buying it in the marketplace for like $50. if you're a student, they do discounts as well.

I'm a big fan of freeware and try to make the most out of it also, but CamelSpace is definitely worth the price!

I put off getting it for quite a long time, but a student discount and Camel Credits helped bring the price down to next to nothing and I was sold 8)

At first glance it seems like a rather dated/basic tool but the sound quality is outstanding! Very subtle use of the SoftSat and Reverb bring character and body to anything you throw at it =)

You could also try DiversionFX CM which comes with the Computer Music magazine :)

Sensomusic Usine has lots of different sequencer modules available so you could have a go at making something similar yourself :)

And then there is AnarchyRhythms. It can be used as a sort of trance-gate with lots of options, not the same but (with a sequencer too)..

It shouldn't be, it just came out last month afaik. :/

This thread made me get into Reflex Pro. It's really like a mirror image of camelspace: Where Camelspace focuses on step sequenced filters, Reflex Pro focuses on routing and delay. They both cover the whole spectrum, but Camelspace is more at home in that gated filter groove corner while Reflex is more in the evolving ambient vibe. The current sale price is a steal IMO, full price will put it up on almost the same level as Camelspace. Give it a try if you haven't. The only thing missing are freely configurable step sequences (you get a number of pre-fabs that you can mirror, shift and stretch), but you get RMS triggering and routing instead.

Dr Device can do some nice things too.

Some freewares that might be interesting apart form the already mentioned AnarchyRhythms are Kitchen Sync, ReSynFX, Truc, Charsiesis, Scuzzphut6v2, Wave Mechanic.

For pure gaters there are Probagate, mTriggerGate.
