Apple failed to patch a Java vulnerability?! Let 'em have it. That should teach them a thing or two about viruses.

True, but it doesn't hurt for them to accommodate the less computer savvy users as there are a lot of them. I used to use AV software but gave up as most of it just f**ks up your machine's performance.justin3am wrote:It may not be a popular opinion, but I don't think it's Apple or Microsoft's responsibility to protect your computer.
I think what sucks is that people think they have some sort of right to blame Apple or Microsoft for them getting viruses. They should be grateful that the companies do what they do, not complain about what they *think* the company should be doing.

What the F@$^@ do you people say?
I expect a Computer company with a Market capitalization more than $500 billion to compile and release a (already finished version in other platforms) patch that fixes a well documentated and already exploited hole in LESS than 2 fuc$#@ months! It was their choice after all to include drivers, java updates and even flash some time ago in their OSes.
Sadly, not everyone is a computer geek or compile Linux Kernels at home or basement. Since Apple only counts/cares about the market these days, I really hope and wish that the market shows them the finger some day....

having a software vulnerability is not the same as running nakedhotchicks.jpg.exe.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Adobe and Apple have a history of hate. Locking out Flash etc IMHO was a political move to stop 3rd parties developing plug ins in order to keep control. This is why plug ins cant be developed for audio. IOS dosnt allow it. Even with HTML5, You cant have a full browsing experience without flash/Java still. The attitude of Apple to malware has been - cant happen, wont happen. This has passed on to users. Malware protetction is available for IOS/OSX but few bother with it. This has changed on OSX with Lion but IOS, not yet.todd sweetland wrote:I guess thats why the ipad has no flash , and steve jobs is so pro htlm5 .

Java and flash are locked out of IOS for security, not political reasons...
both are f**king nightmares when it comes to security.

Well, that part may be true but I still find that the long period of time before there was a patch set up still messes up the scenario a bit. I do not have a buggy to ride in this race so I still think that as long as there are still flash/java apps in iOS they should deal with them in a timely fashion...metamorphosis wrote:Java and flash are locked out of IOS for security, not political reasons...

This is also true as they are cross platform, so targetting them gets a bigger audience. Is the solution to just ignore current web standards? HTML5 is full of security holes waiting to be exploited too. Apple wanted and got control of thier Java version in order to avoid whats just happened. Fail. My take on it is that you just plan for inevitable malware attacks on any platform.metamorphosis wrote:Java and flash are locked out of IOS for security, not political reasons...
