Logan String Melody II vs. SonicProjects Stringer - watch video!

I had a Logan, Crumar Performer and Solina at different times. I actually thought the Solina was the best but only by a small margin over the Crumar- they were quite different. I also liked that the Crumar was light. The Logan to me was by far the worst sounding. Maybe other units sounded better than mine, I don't know. String machines are quite subjective though.

Did you have the II or the I? There also was a previous model (without II) which only had one sound. The Melody II, at least imho, has very fat and lively sounds, and it has an envelope for each key, not just one for all as the ARP Omni 2. But the ARP of course has the well known 70ies/80ies strings.

I didn't think the Logan was that heavy. I weighed mine when I was looking at keyboard stands and I seem to recall that the Logan was about 15 kg, probably a little under, and the Solina was 25 kg. Certainly the Solina is much heavier than the Logan.

It's strange, some sources (including wikipedia) say its 23 kilograms, others say 15. Maybe there are different versions. I've never weighted mine, but with the cover it's really heavy.

Yeah, I quickly Googled it and found that figure on Wikipedia. As far as I'm aware there was only the String Melody and String Melody II, the difference being the different chorus/LFO settings and I'm sure those don't weigh 10 kg TBH I only ever use the O setting, which is the same as the original SM.

Maybe that's the difference, the weight of the cover. Sadly mine is missing the cover, plus the weight of the cover wasn't relevant to checking the load a keyboard stand could take.

My Solina has its original "coffin case". I think it's some sort of compressed cardboard. It's really flimsy and barely weighs anything, unlike the Solina that's supposed to be carried in it - crazy!

i'm a sucker for those divide-down units since i first heard jarre in back in 76...
i had a lot of them during the years (still have the soina and the vp), and yes, the logan stringmachine2 (which iirc was the same like the hohner strings) sounded very good... but the best stringmachines to me are hands down, the imo unbearable vp330mk2 (stereo!), the eminent u310 stings and the crumar multiman2... closely followed by the rs202/paraphonic 505 (very closed to the strings in the vp) by roland...
