I downloaded and installed fine, bit of a lag creating and account, then the "New Project" button didn't seem to work, and I just got an ever-increasing list of "untitled projects" building up.
I'll try it again later, I'd be very interested in a full-featured DAW that has seamless collaboration (even though I can't imagine switching, I've been a little pissed-off with Cubase lately. Just a phase.)

I think it's a cloud application and the program itself is completely on their server. Probably just the projects files you've made are on your computer.braj wrote:I really hope they get an offline mode because it sounds very cool. I could deal with being blocked from sharing because of the net, but fully blocked and can't work is a huge drag. I wonder how much of the app is the online component and how much really exists on your computer.
I'm subscriber at digitalmusician.net - there I can use a (very simple) DAW that is on my computer (Digital Musician Container - DMC) and then I could connect other subscribers via internet and make music with them. They also have a VST plugin (DMP) which you can use in your own host program.
Would be great if Ohm Studio took a similar (but even better) approach...

It's pretty much the opposite of this.Tricky-Loops wrote: I think it's a cloud application and the program itself is completely on their server. Probably just the projects files you've made are on your computer.

If it would be, then they would give away all their plugins for free - if they were all on your own computer...JD Gaffe wrote:It's pretty much the opposite of this.Tricky-Loops wrote: I think it's a cloud application and the program itself is completely on their server. ^ Oh, good point, well there's certainly some aspect of the client on your computer obviously. You did install something.
Also I'm pretty sure you don't have direct access to any project files on your computer.

They are, they are just in a proprietary format so you cant use them in any other hostTricky-Loops wrote: If it would be, then they would give away all their plugins for free - if they were all on your own computer...

Mixed feelings... As some other people mentioned, the first thing I would like to see is a kind of offline mode so you can run it and work with it "normally", listening to your projects and stuff whenever you like. Making the DAW dependant of their server 100% is not really a great idea. But the idea of making a collaborative DAW is great.
The PC installer, when you unpack the 50MB file is 320MB so I don't believe it's a cloud app.
I checked the files and I think this DAW could work without the Internet. Maybe it's planned for later when more users open an account on Ohm Studio website. I did, but I'm going to hold off for the time being as their servers must be sweating really hard right now...
It looks great, judging by the videos. I like the colours and the tidiness of the GUI. I don't think I'm going to have any problems with it regarding its user interface. I quite love it,and I can't wait to test-drive it. In a few days when the storm calms down...
I always imagined that recording audio and MIDI should be very simple, not as complicated as many DAWs make it to be. I think the most of the problems stem from programmers who had never seen, or worked in a music studio before, or just tried making music after a few glasses of wine or/and a spliff.
All I'm looking for and I'm interested in at such moment is MIDI keyboard, transport controls, selecting and making tracks, cutting and copying parts. Easy-peasy.
Not 100s of menus and sub-menus. They don't seem "physical" enough to feel creative. So I like the "racks", "cables" and simple shi* like that [in EnergyXT, Buzz, Reason, for example] at that moment, as that is easily and quickly comprehensible, as opposed to typical DAWs with crowded menus and loads of small icons. It happened not just a few times that I quit my DAW in frustration [Reaper] because I lost too much time configuring it, and just fiddling around with it, while I just wanted to record my shi* quickly. That's why I still prefer EnergyXT *1.41* to anything, and I get the most creative in it!
[shame it's not multi-core...] Good ole Traction was great, too...
Cheers!

I wonder if they are thinking of linking an offline mode and/or downloadable projects to those who purchase the app? Or maybe even some tiered system with varying degrees of access? Just a thought...DuX wrote:Mixed feelings... I think an offline version is essential. Unless there is some way to do that already. IMO Ohm Force would lose many potential customers without it. It looks very promising But surely needs an offline mode IMO.

An offline mode was planned first (and we have partial one for debugging), but it came with a lot of non-trivial technical issues and needs work that could have nipped the whole Ohm Studio development in the bud, so we chose to skip this feature for now.

It did seem odd that it is not there in the current beta but it is good to know that you guys did consider it. Hopefully the technical issue can be resolved as the Product has great promise but...there are many users who...Fire Sledge - Ohm Force wrote:An offline mode was planned first (and we have partial one for debugging), but it came with a lot of non-trivial technical issues and needs work that could have nipped the whole Ohm Studio development in the bud, so we chose to skip this feature for now.

a. Do not have their DAW connected to the internet who may glance at Ohm Studio and just move on when they find out it requires an internet connection running all the time AFAICT.
b. Who do have their DAW's connected to the internet (like me) but still want a way to work offline somehow in Ohm Studio.
Not sure what the split for users in each category would be... 50 - 50 or 60 - 40 or some variant thereof, either way but I think there are a lot of customers who would walk without offline features. Likely you may not even get that feedback on your Site / Forum as they would very likely not register at all. Seems like a big missed opportunity.
Nice to see feedback from you guys on this. Hopefully you can make it work in future.

It looks quite nice and Ohm Boyz are first quality and partnering with GForce is brilliant, but the last time I tried to get on OB website, it was so slow I finally gave up. I don't like to work online either, because I think you give up a lot of CPU for that...

After trying this out for a while, gotta say that it is pretty much a letdown right now
Very slow (And i mean veeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrry slooooooooooooooow)
Lacking a lot of features we have become used to
Not as slick as it at first looks
In fact this app has pretty much got the whole "Mega let down" thing covered, I can see why they kept falling behind with this
Seriously, by the time i have finally got a project to start in this, I have written uploaded released and had a minor internet success in any other host hahaha
Back to the drawing board Ohm, you need to rethink the way this works (Offline mode with no waiting around for servers and other crap would be a first step here)
(Oh and for the record i have 80meg connection, averaging about 40+, so it isn't that)
Actually let me simplify this
here is what this app is like
