There are apps that do supply an entire Start orb and programs panel but they arnt good. It intially took 8 seconds to boot but that changed to 40 seconds for some reason. The power button makes laptop sleep no matter what the settings are. Im sure its ok for Tablets. Ive reloaded the Windows 7 image and await Windows 9 :-)
If it's like that, then they screwed things big time. We must let MS know that this is NOT the way. They are known for keeping backwards compatibility, so, this is not their way of doing things. Looks much more like Apple's way.
Time to start shouting at them, it seems.

Go look for personalization\Window Color and Appearance\Advance appearance settings. Not there, I eventually found a crappy do little to nothing thing.
A minor scale is a major scale starting 3 half steps down from the major and visa versa. Any Chord has as many versions as it has notes.

1. Open regedit by typing regedit at the Start screen
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
3. Modify the RPEnabled key to a "0" instead of the default "1"
4. To return to the Metro UI, just change the value back to a "1"

Thats for the older version of Win 8. I dont have the new one installed now to confirm or deny if it still works with Metro. Start menu is taken out so I presume the new version has blocked the Metro hack also.

Ahhh, I see... ;( That hurts...

Probably one can try some third party utils as mentioned here :
http://www.askvg.com/how-to-enable-good ... windows-8/

One would think windows 8 isn't internally that different from the previous ones :

windows 8 - version 6.2
windows 7 - version 6.1
windows vista - version 6.0

Windows 8 = Windows vista (All Hype, but Utterly F@###@N USELESS)

Try to find any online videos where Users are singing Windows 8's Praises..... you won't..

Personally I'll stay on windows7 till windows9 is released, (There is also the issue with a lot of software not working properly on 8, as certain drivers are only up until 7.)

Are you using the latest version? I simply can't believe MS would be so stupid as to put desktop aside. I mean - it's there since Windows 3.0. There must definitely be some way there to have it.
OTOH, they came with that bizare bar to replace the menus in Office 2007/2010
