DIVA was not actually mentioned this time. Signs and wonders.

well, synths are judged based on what you get for you money when it comes to presets, as the majority of users are not sound designers. I feel many companies would benefit having more presets and more varied presets rather than a small amount in what often seems a rushed release.Ingonator wrote: 2.) Saurus could also do some digital sounds but the strangths are for sure in old school analog sounds.
Maybe the testers at Amazona should also try to do their own sounds and not just step through the presets which i agree don't really show what the synth is capable of.
Hopefully the upcoming official expansion and the bank of Himalaya will show this better.

ACE does not have 0 delay feedback filters so no way it sounds more analog than Saurus. it may have more in terms of features...but in terms of sound i'd pick saurus any day. strange that amazona which is a good online magazine didn't pick up on that. Ace might get updated with new filters but at the moment it is a yesteryear sounding softsynth in that respect.
of the ones i tried Saurus is at the moment the best softsynth after Diva (having allready Diva i didn't feel the need to buy it but i've been considering it).
it should not be compared to synths without 0 delay feeeback filters....those all sound like plasticky shit and in 2012 they all belong to the trash bin IMO.
they was all the result of a shortcoming in dsp programming. time to move on.

only noobs judge a synth by its presets (and they are not even judging the synth itself but just the presets)Kriminal wrote:synths are judged based on what you get for you money when it comes to presets, as the majority of users are not sound designers.
i wonder people who have been buying analog synths throughout the years (and paying them a lot of $$$) with no presets ..are they sound designers? they are musicians not numb enough to figure out how to turn a few knobs and make the sounds they need.

not anyone making any interesting music .Kriminal wrote:sorry, but thats total bollocks.olikana wrote:only noobs judge a synth by its presets (and they are not even judging the synth itself but just the presets)Kriminal wrote:synths are judged based on what you get for you money when it comes to presets, as the majority of users are not sound designers.

for me someone who is challenged enough not to figure out what an osc a filter and envelope can do can't make any decent music.
"if even Philip Oakey figured out how to use a synth anyone can"

I got the demo of Saurus, installed it, played with it for a while ..... then uninstalled it and deleted it,...
True that it's strengths may lie with modern sounds, but there are plenty other synths out there that do a better job at it (and cheaper too)
Personally, Saurus = Windows8 (I'll give it a skip)

Does a 0 delay filter always sound "better"/more analog then a non-0 delay filter? I beg to differ. I think/presume that a filter would benefit from 0 delay response technology to make it more analog sounding, but a bad sounding 0 delay filter would still be a bad sounding filter.olikana wrote:ACE does not have 0 delay feedback filters so no way it sounds more analog than Saurus.
Not claiming that Saurus filter sounds bad though! I haven't even tried Saurus yet tbh
But one thing that I absolutely love about ACE is its sweeeet sounding filter, analogish or not
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!
