reason why xt2 is still floating around and is always on my gear list... if there is such a thing... is because it is such a pleasure to work with for most things... and, unfortunately, not such a big pleasure when you get stuck by a random crash or overall misconception and missing little features... I still prefer it over other cheap hosts, and will continue to use it as long as it is running on any OS I have.
Hopefully there will be some update this year.

Someone capable of writing such a gem as xt1.4 is not going to give up doing it.
Jorgen may have a bad PR attitude but it will not abandon his plans.

jens, it's so good to see you around. It's like the good ol' days.jens wrote:He wrote XT1 in Delphi though...
I heard a rumour, but don't quote me on this but J is close to releasing XT3, except it will be written in Python.
Truly cross-platform.
Was XT2 written in C++.?
What we have here ladies and gentlemen is a visionary code designer.
He writes pretty good code - not in question.
He even has pretty good ideas for what a DAW GUI should look like.
Does he give a f*** about his 'costumers' (sic).
I have a dirty feeling that some time in 2014, XT3 shall be unleashed on the world. And it will be another hackers nightmare. J was given multiple opportunities for free beta testing. But to see the best and brightest jump ship to REAPER. Makes me think they know something we all don't know.
I love XT. As much as any one. And it warms the cockles of my heart to see people like you kejkz, still rallying for a new version.
It ain't going to happen mate. This ship was jumped a long time ago.
Everyone who hangs around with the Captain shall be slain.
I live in the hope that J makes me eat my words. And I shall munch them up one by one.
Delphi? C++, Python?
This is a man not short of vision or ability, but commitment and time.
Let him get on with it...
He has us loyal followers, he has many that have jumped ship, that would jump right back on the ship if he showed some commitment - it ain't going to happen.
XT IS DEAD.
I know that people like DarkStar will think I'm an arsehole. Maybe I am.
J, just let us know if this is the end of the road, or would that be bad for business eh? Do you want us to beg?
We are honest men that ask an honest question.
What the f**k is happening with Energy XT?
Is that too difficult a question to answer?
eh?

my wild guess:
most things were lost in translation.
iirc he isnt fluid in english (more than me).
hence i guess he is relaying on others (community manager?!) for
efficient interaction with his customers.
or at least he planed to be for the xt2 era.
on the other hand, i can remember it was/is a student project.
he teached a class throu/with xt1 ?!
i dont know, but i think he never liked the preparation and planning
for a real business/company/marketing.
my impression is that he gave it away (the whole project) maybe because he got
sick of the demand and pressure.

Well the decent thing to do would be to just let everyone know what is going on, either directly or through a translator.
Leaving everyone hanging, not sure of its future is essentially going to drive away any goodwill that anyone once had. I like the potential of XT but have little interest as it's seemingly abandonware now.

If indeed this is the case, then one solution would be to release the code as an open-source project and allow the community to maintain it.engine wrote:my wild guess:

I'd be very interested in that idea if EnergyXT is nearing the end of its commercial life. (if!)

Curious, where did you hear this? Python is an interpreted language (rather than compiled like C/C++). Good for web stuff and scripting, but interpreted languages are inherently slower than compiled ones and don't deal directly with hardware like C/C++. I'm just a beginning programmer but that's my understanding.codec_spurt wrote: I heard a rumour, but don't quote me on this but J is close to releasing XT3, except it will be written in Python.
Truly cross-platform.
I also miss the pre-XT2 glory days when it was a groundbreaking program with a communicative developer. Still use 1.4 as a VST, but Jorgen really got off track since then.

If that would be case, I would take on my developer goggles and start codinghaszari wrote:If indeed this is the case, then one solution would be to release the code as an open-source project and allow the community to maintain it.
Just kidding, I am still on hacking programing level

Oh shit, I did it again: promised myself to not start a new project in XT (1.4, I mean), in order to get serious about learning Reaper, but today just started a new one. XT1.4 is an addiction hard to leave
.
.
A long ago, I used to be a Muzys user. Those who followed that saga sure remember well what happened. XT seems like a Muzys II now. On the other hand, I suspect that Jorgen's silence is a very loud one, saying "f**k you, nay-sayers!". Well, whatever. XT1 was brilliant at its time, XT2 is complete crap, if XT3 will ever be released, it really has to be a Bitwig killer or somethingrobojam wrote:Well the decent thing to do would be to just let everyone know what is going on, either directly or through a translator.

Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Loved XT 1.4. Have always hated V2.
Why?
Because I only use Energy XT as a VSTi plugin in FL Studio and not as a standalone and V2 VSTi has always caused crashes, graphic glitches, etc.. when used as a VSTi in Fl Studio. Not to mention that my favorite features of V1.4 were removed in V2 (arpegiator, etc..). Sure I'd get the occasional crash with V1.4 but nothing like V2 which is absolutely unuseable for me.
About 2 years ago I completely gave up on XT. I don't even bother to try new versions since the VSTi version gets no love at all. I already know that whatever new version is released will be all buggy (VSTi version). I would be extremely surprised if the next one wasn't, but like I said, I have been disapointed so many times I won't even bother to try it. It's sad because 1.4 was the bomb. But it's not the end of the world. Fl Studio started including Patcher a while back which I find to be a nice alternative to how I used to use Energy XT V1.4..
