I have several M-Audio devices which have generally served me well. However, back when Avid decided to stop making drivers for the Omnistudio USB, which was too new and expensive to in any way justify that, I made a note to myself to only purchase low-end stuff from them.
Generally it makes sense for companies to continue support on the higher priced items since profit margins tend to be greater. Maybe M-Audio will be less well run by the new owners but in the end consumers make their decisions mostly based on personal experience.
