lol! Yeah, and it usually costs the same (or more) to jump DAWs than to just upgrade your own.LawrenceF wrote:Yeah. With such a really sucky economy a first $3-400 DAW for many may be their very last one for a long awhile.

I have Cubase AI5 which came packaged with my keyboard. I have been tempted to upgrade to Artist 6.5. This particular comment makes sense to me. I have also looked around at alternatives to Cubase. This sale may be enough for me to commit to it. Until the sale I was watching prices flip between $195 and 249. It would only be $99 for me now. I will not likely upgrade again until I am forced once everything has become incompatible/obsolete:

They're probably trying to get the others to jump over the version fence before they buy something else, build the collective. Not a bad strategy.

I was thinking about upgrading from Cubase Essential 4 to Artist 6.5 before ...
Anyway - it seems like the price for the upgrade is still the same as it used to be if I'm not totally mistaken - in the Steinberg Webshop and on the site of my local dealer (I'm in Germany): around 139€.
I think thats the same as the old price?

You must be looking at something that does not reflect the sale (yet?). The sale makes it $99 from AI5 at least, as far as I have found.Izak Synthiemental wrote:I was thinking about upgrading from Cubase Essential 4 to Artist 6.5 before ...

EDIT: On the Steinberg website it shows $99.00 (79€) which is less than it was when I originally checked. I did not save the price in any form but I recall it (Upgrade #2) was near $200 maybe $249 on Steinberg and $199 at retailers. I saw it periodically on sale for as low as $194 on ebay. They seem to have eliminated the tiers (i.e. Upgrade 1, Upgrade 2): (I don't have enough posts on KVR to make this an active link so copy & paste) http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cu ... _2012.html http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cu ... _2012.html
"Until August 31, 2012, Steinberg offers Cubase LE 4/5/6 and Cubase AI 4/5/6 users as well as all Cubase SX/SL 1/2/3, Sequel 2/3, Cubase Essential 4/5 and Cubase Elements 6 customers value-packed upgrades to Cubase 6.5 and Cubase Artist 6.5...."
I made the link RED

You overlooked that I posted a link directly to Steinberg's website. Look in the News section. You can buy it directly from Steinberg as well.DrumAddict wrote:the upgrade for Artist shows here also 149 euro here on Steinberg shop !

The link is not working in Germany. Thats obviously an US/North America exclusive offer. I'm not sure whether the proxy hack is a real workaround for european Steinberg customers.
Why don't they just offer a similiar deal to us? After all the Euro is still a higher valued currency then the Dollar - at 99€ for the upgrade they would still earn more then they do in the US.
I've just seen that they offer a "discounted" upgrade on their German site - however (like i mentioned before) it seems to be at the same price as it always has been. So i cannot see what is so special about it?

That is a fruitless effort because you would pay international shipping if you were able to get the sale price at a North American location.krandr wrote:You can change you browser connection via proxy server with USA location and you will find 99$ price.

People outside of the USA should contact Steinberg and get the facts from them.

It is bewildering that I have only located one US retailer that shows they are aware of this special upgrade sale. Most retailers are still displaying 6.0 versions and not 6.5 as well. I realize you are eligible for 6.5 if you purchase 6.0 after Jan.. 1, 2012 but I expect most retailers to be up on things. A version upgrade can stimulate sales.

Personally I think this "special sale" is only interested for very old users.
Take a look into the fine prints, and you can see that "Cubase SX" users can upgrade for like 299 EUR (if I saw that corretly). Though I remember, old users were cut off with Cubase 5 - now is the chance to get Cubase 6, and then invest another 50 bucks for C6.5.
Another thing I have in mind, is the sale in itself. Taking the last survey also into consideration, I think we have Cubase 7 on front doors (from September onwards). Even though Steinberg said so different to me like 2 months ago. And I got no confirmation about that with a recent mail I sent in.
In the end, only really old users benefit, not the cats that constantly upgraded. So I'd take that offer with a really huge grain of salt.

I think it's a big deal for LE owners.
In Canada my screen is switching between the page with pricing and one without pricing. Know if retailers will have this as well?

As someone pointed out earlier, it appears to be targeting the light product users who have never committed to a full version and might move onto a competitor's product. However the older products will be increasingly obsolete adding incentive to target the oldest light version users.
Also, even if a Cubase 7 did appear in September there is typically a period of time when products recently purchased are eligible for a free download to the latest version. People who purchased 6.0 after Jan 1, 2012 are eligible for a 6.5 free download if not a mailed disk.
I found one retailer mentioning the sale. They are selling off their 6.0 products with the available download to the latest version.
