I can relate to that. Moved to another town, suddenly the music stores and game shops I was used to are gone.

So my only way to test things is at a fair - but Musikmesse is getting more expensive by every year, and the exhibiting company moves back in the process.

But I expected certain firms to show off - Steinberg, Apple, Magix, Native Instruments (especially since they turned their back on Musikmesse and the rumored drop of Maschine).
None of those companies were even there. Yamaha was there, but nothing Steinberg related really. Apple doesn't go to trade shows any more at all, etc.

Honestly, outside of Presonus, the day I was there this year(Thursday), I didn't see anything really. There were a couple of booths with companies advertising keyboards and they would have some software running that they created(synths or whatever), but that's it.

Winter NAMM is four halls plus extra rooms outside of the main halls. Summer NAMM is a single hall. Much smaller, and dedicated almost entirely to musical instruments(mostly guitars and other stringed instruments, a couple of drum booths, that's it).
