The ones I couldn't live without right now are (these are things that are likely to be used in every project):
1. Slate VTM
2. Slate VCC
3. Valhalla Room
4. Valhalla Ubermod
5. Amplitube
6. Audio Damage Dubstation
7. IK Black76
8. IK White2A
9. Cytomic The Glue
10. DmgAudio EQuality/EQuick
Notice there's no UAD plugins in that list (and I own a lot).

Izotope 'Alloy' (hoping for a Pro update one day with individual plugins.)
Izotope 'Ozone' on every home mastered track.
Abletons 'Limiter'
Tone Boosters 'Isone' for room simulation (Head phone monitoring)
Effect racks made with Max for Live.
Items that I wouldn't want to loose, Well, Everything I have, however. Izotope 'Stutter Edit' Camel Audio 'Camel Space and Phat' 'db-Glitch' I would n't be happy if they were now Ilegal items in your DAW.

Then take a look here:
www.acustica-audio.com
But the game actually starts with its 3rd party libraries.
Google these:
alexb
cdsoundmaster
analog in the box
rythminmind
vnxt emt
I'm just an amateur and not a pro whatsoever, but my ear say, these are the best i've ever heard for:
- EQs
- Console emulation
- Tape emulation
- Plate reverbs
It's quite hard to understand and to handle first, but once you get it it makes your mixes sounds so nice. It actually takes much shorter to get to a decent mix.

It works basically like convolution reverbs, but it works dynamically and not static.
With the NAT sampler which comes with it, you can take 'samples' of your hardwares, say a tapedeck, EQ, or Console and create your own programs with it.
If your programs are really good, you can also start to share or sell your programs.
Those 3rd party libraries are top notch programs, and they cost about from 3-40 Euros, most are no-brainer. But caution it can get addictive, cause they enable you to get that analog, and 3D-ness sound.
But like i said it will give you a headache at the start, so if you have any question, ask me.

you have them and don't use them....jam92189 wrote:Me TOO If they would just get rid of there crappy DSP cards I would still use my UAD stuffA.M. Gold wrote:I like my UAD plug-ins, wish they were native.

HA yep I also have alot of native plugins of similar styles and just find it easier to not use my UAD card. Usually Im on the go so bringing it kinda gets in the way some times. I say they are great but the dsp and latency suck for what is available now_leras wrote:you have them and don't use them....jam92189 wrote:Me TOO If they would just get rid of there crappy DSP cards I would still use my UAD stuffA.M. Dream plug? Yeah. An acoustic environment simulator that models the reflections of a customizable space and which processes the "mic" end as binaural. There are variations of this but not a one I them is a straight forward plugin that doesn't mindlessly run the reverb signal through an HRTF convolution (that's not how hearing works). I've tried every ambience/reverb plugin that claims HRTF support and some huge and disgusting tool that doesn't even let you run audio through it because it's designed for acoustic engineering tests for buildings (worst GUI ever. Of all time).
What I'd like is to see something like RaySpace but with much smoother ray casting and a model of human ears as the listening/microphone node, as well as height adjustment. It's a neat plugin but the lack of modeling human binaural hearing leaves it out of my dream plug target (and the reverb is a bit grainy and cold).
What I think I'm going to have to do is set up a stereo pair microphones back to back in a room filled with speakers. I've done experiments like this and, even without balanced stereo pair mics (I used a bunch of crappy RadioShack mics and a Nueman TLM103(?) and an M-Audio Sputnik) the ambience is far more realistic than any plugin I've ever tried. Sadly, this requires a huge setup process and hardware I can't afford (extra amps and speakers).
I've asked around and no one has so far pointed me to anything that's like this. There is supposedly something like this from some French (??) company but there was no Mac version when I saw it announced and it's ridiculously expensive (we're talking $1000+). Not even going to try to test it.
As for which plugs I can't live without... I've not found any such case because I've not done enough tracks to finished works with the same software consistently. The problem has been one of constantly changing OS, DAW software and plugins. I pretty much decided to cut out the fat and stop being so inundated with options and to focus on the music, but my PC died halfway through the process of cleaning up old incomplete Sonar projects and I decided to give up on Windows.
