I second the Yamaha RH5MA. I have used expensive AKGs for over 35 years, but my Yamaha RH5MA's are actually better for mixing. When I mix on them I always have a mix that translates better to the monitors - especially in the bass. Before I got them, my mixes always had problems in the bass. Not any more. Also they're on-ear open air, so they're more comfortable (the most comfortable I've ever worn - I can literally wear them all day - and I wear glasses - very uncomfortable with most headphones). They're also very sturdy. They've hit the floor over and over - no effect. I have two pair now and they're cheap!

Pristine, loud, comfortable. I bought them new at a pharmacy for $5.00 I could not believe the bass and mid response on these things.

I have been relying on my KRK KNS8400 for a long time now, and they sound really good for $150

However it does take a good month of use before they really shine.
