Okay, my recommendation is the Grado SR80's. The SR60's are cheaper, but have less bass. You can find the SR80's in your price range, maybe new, definitely second hand. These are well known if you search for reviews.
These are very lean headphones, they don't have lots of heavy bass, but that is because they are not exaggerating bass either. They are not that comfortable for long periods of wear. What they are though is open and revealing. You will be able to hear a lot with these.
But, you really have to get to know them. I've been using them for years and I am just getting to really understand how they translate.
They are not the most honest sound, they are not completely flat, but if you listen to a lot of music with them you and then compare what you hear on these to what you hear on a stereo you soon start to learn how they translate.
That's all I have experience with in this price range.
Audio Technica are spoken well of, no experience with them though.

I have Audio-Technica M-45. If you don't mind the subtle difference with M-50 then go for it. These are very comfortable for long hours. I got it from Guitar Center for $75, well it was $99 but Amazon was selling for $75 so they honored that price.

I've owned SR80's. I like SR80's. But I wouldn't try to mix with SR80's. They really aren't that flat, esp. on the low end. And they aren't that comfortable for really long sessions. And if you're going to have to be really careful with them if you transport them.Aiynzahev wrote:Okay, my recommendation is the Grado SR80's.
I really like Superlux HD-681's http://www.amazon.com/Superlux-681-Dyna ... B002GHIPYI. I'd put them up against almost anything that retails less than $150, and a lot of headphones that are more expensive. But again, like the Grado's, they aren't going to stand up to much abuse.
But the Audio-Technica M-50's are great and are more solid than the Grados or Superluxes.

Push your budget a little bit to 90$ and get yourself the Krk kns6400, you wont regret it, they are a serious mixing tool and a giant killer - they are as clear as fresh mineral water

Aside from being great headphones, they have a removable/replaceable cord.

No competition!
Only one pair of headphones in this price range.
Presonus HD7.
Built like a tank. Look supercool. Sound magnificent.
These headphones will survive a nuclear war.
They look so great that you might not want to wear anything else when you go out of the house - showing them off!
They sound as good, if not better than Industry Standard Sonys...
Presonus make the best Software (Studio One) and the best Headphones - HD-7.

This. I own these and the ATM50, and the sound of the Samson is much more balanced. The m50 has more bass, but in my opinion, it colors the sound too much for mixing.wakax wrote:from my experience

I don't know why nobody recommends them (anymore?) but I'd buy again and again my Sony MDR-V6. Been rocking them for 4 years straight. Have had to change the ear pads twice, but then I sometimes rock my electric with them on, and that means a lot of sweat. If it wasn't for that I'd bet the original ear pads would be in good condition. (A pair of ear pads is about $10 USD).
You can find them on Amazon for $67.99 USD as of, right now.
