At Waves Universewe don't find the need to work as often with the tech support side of the house (we deal primarily with sales), but my guess is it was a new tech who didn't know you can download and use older versions of Waves products.

In fact you can buy a new product (V9) and have it downgraded to a previous version if you desire (V8, V7, or V6). I do believe they have stopped allowing downloads of V5 or earlier products. However if you still have a V5 already installed, of course you can continue to use it.

No more downgrades. I bought a guitar plugin that was ver 9 and I had waves version 8 on windows 32bit a month or so ago. I contacted support for the downgade and here's what they said..."Unfortunately, due to technical issues with Pace we are unable to accommodate any license downgrades.We do not have an estimated time for this issue to be resolved...." The about a week and a half later, I got another email where they said basically,the pace issue isn't going to be fixed period and offered me a refund. Fortunately, I had just gotten a new workstation that runs windows 7 pro 64bit so I had to upgraded all my waves plugins anyway.

Yes, we have heard the same thing. This is not any kind official info, but we understand Pace was upset when Waves did away with the requirement for using iLok on V9 products, so they decided to stop supporting requests for Waves licenses. I may have oversimplified, but essentially going back to iLok on Waves products is currently not a possibility.
