Ableton live 9 released

Are you guys getting online at ableton...I've not even had a chance yet,traffic must be overload

its incredibly slow. currently stuck in the shop watching the page update thingy go round and round and round....

Yeah, and since Live 9 Suite is mostly sample content I'm not surprised. I hope they resist the urge to publish an Apple ("totally overwhelmed by the incredible response").

They should have offered suite owners a pre-sale, five days before official release. That would have taken the edge off the 5-day limitation for suite owners a bit and spread out the heavy lifting on the servers too. Now every kid that got Suite 9 for free is downloading 52 Gigs of stuff just to see what it is.

I wonder what the actual sales numbers are. As a Suite 8/m4L owner with no interest in the sample content I am upgrading when upgrades to Live 9 vanilla go on Sale.

Also, it's a shame cycling74 ended their crossgrade sale with release of Live 9. It was to be expected since everybody and his brother will have m4L it now, but I was still mulling over it. Also underscores the severe inflation on the value of m4L. From a $200 product to a $50 discount to... nothing.

Its basically the same as the Standard installer, except the included instruments will be available. You almost certainly wont get the extra Suite audio content.

It said on the ableton site I needed to download max 6.1 to run with live so I did and now it asks me to enter a serial number to run so I don't get it. I don't need to download max?

No, you need to download and install it, but, as I said, without a full MAX/MSP license, which is not the M4L license, you cant run it separately from Live; you'd only be able to run it inside Live.

Again, open a Max4Live device inside Live to check if its working, dont open the standalone MAX/MSP.

Site keeps going down

Managed to get through eventually and pay via paypal..

..but then site crashed again

So got a confirmation email from paypal but nothing else..

Ok, I went the same path: Check-Out for L9 Suite Upgrade, paying by Paypal, payment went through, but track back to the Ableton Shop failed.

So I picked up the phone redialed the support number for about 50 times and spoke to a support agent a few minutes ago:

There seem to be quite some people having this issue. He told me they are looking at those cases with priority, but that it can take some time until I'll recieve my serial number, because the order has to be finished manually inside the shop by the support team to get the serial numbers generated.

Maybe we all have to train patience.

I think it'll help to mail at orders@ableton.com, explaining the issue and attaching your Paypal confirmation mail.

My guess is that they took the site down to solve the problem with orders. Better to frustrate a few people trying to buy now rather than frustrate them later and have to work out a few hundred thousand refunds.

Since I got in on the free update a few weeks ago all the downloadable content has been available to me for that length of time so I went ahead and downloaded what I needed last week anticipating something like this.

Anyone who's been able to download the content - is there a link for the manual anywhere? even if I can't download it, I'd like to read stuff in advance if possible...

I highly recommend getting the trial first - that new browser/library isn't for everybody.

I'm sure in 1 or 2 years it will have matured enough to be usable though

Expect the Live 8 drama to repeat itself.

Indeed.

The aggro going on at the ableton forums as always, just so classic. If they're that riled up over a server overload, wait till they see the bugs they didn't fix yet. Poor Ableton.
