Nope. Read up on av-comparatives.codec_spurt wrote:The best Anti-Virus is Microsoft Security Essentials on some systems.
You'll notice on detection tests that MSE (ie. defender in w8 ) is the baseline - meaning, every other antivir detects more than it.

Absolutely loving AVAST Internet Security here. I've worked for the past 14 years in IT, if that counts for anything. It's light on system resources, fast, updates regularly, and costs less than most. Now before you think that expensive means good, I invite you to research it. It holds up well. Avast has saved my browser from "drive by" infections very, very often.
The "automatic sandbox" option is always appreciated too. For best results, stay away from internet filth that soils both soul and spirit.

I see what you mean.sqigls wrote: Dude, drinking & posting is not a good idea.
You are right of course.
Thanks for caring.
Btw, just wondering why it is not a good idea?
Did someone learn something they didn't know before?
Did I make a total prick of myself?
You know that sometimes the thoughts just come too fast and you want to get them all down and the editing leaves something to be desired.
But fair play.
Next time I have a few beers and I am in a good mood with love in my heart and a need to share the little knowledge I have in my tiny mind, I'll think hard about doing so.
Btw, a lot of the time people thought I was pissed when I was posting, I was actually having other episodes, but good call, this time.
There's also been times when I'm ripped to the tits and no one had a clue.
Btw, you don't need to feel embarrassed for me, I'm a big boy now.
I'm just sorry I offended you so much. Would you also like to point out where I was talking shit in the rest of my post(s), seeing as you went to the trouble of actually quoting my incoherency. Did you find any other defects? Deficits or deficiencies in character perhaps?
You clicked on a link to learn about Anti-Virus. I blahed on. You caught me out. You had the good grace and class to point this out. Any more?
Most people round here know I can be a total arsehole sometimes. I don't think they need you to point it out. But feel free. I might even learn something from it, like I just did with your post...

If you were, you would see where I have pointed out the very same reports as you have pointed to.
Much to their chagrin - "You don't know what you are talking about"... sort of stuff.
Oh well.
I know that MSE is a less than average AV but I used it to make a point.
For my stepdad with a heart condition and not many years left to live, and let's face it, who hasn't felt the same way, dicking about with AV in general just to catch a few nasties? It is perfect for him, it is light weight, it is fast, it is unobtrusive. If I put anything else on there he would disable it - he is a f**king pain in the arse, and as you probably already know, when you make the mistake of helping friends/family out with their computer (for nothing) if anything goes wrong 10 years into the future it is YOUR fault.
So for him it is good. He won't pay for AV. And I find the main difference between most of the great AV is the ability to do real time updating of signatures.
I made these points implicitly if not explicitly in my post.
I think I'v explained myself enough to say that I agree with you.
Feel free to say I'm wrong.
Yeah MSE ain't very good, I've been saying that for a long time. I never did say it was good though, so there was no need to call me out.
All the best M@

Yup pretty much.EvilDragon wrote:Eset NOD32! The best of the best.
But it has its weaknesses. No AV is perfect, hence me blahing on.
It might catch more than any other AV on the market, but it won't catch everything.
Would it catch more than Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes (both free)?
And Emsisoft (free)?
?
Zero days?
?
Mmmm?
?
I'm being stroppy now, but EvilDragon, surely someone as computer savvy as you would not leave the total responsibility onto one program?
I bet even you, use more than one level of security.
Then again, you never said you did, so I'm just curious, coz you seem to know what you are doing generally anyway.

Hey 'Spurt. I didn't know about E.M.E.T. before. Still don't understand the concept but looks interesting, food for thought. So thanks fella.

Well, it's good if you got your whole system backed up and you want to ride bare back, probably because you use the internet at the same time as running your DAW.theodore_whitmore wrote:Hey 'Spurt. He explains the concept better than I ever could.
Plus the other link I gave to Dedoimedo.
It will take you a few days max. You then have a system where you don't need anti-virus. AND you will be protected from 0 day exploits that other AV won't protect from.

If you want a more complete solution, ZoneAlarm offers a lot for free.
Of course it is infected/affected by shills that disagree with some of its political content, but more than that it will tell you if a site is infested with malware.
Zone Alarm, Mmmm.. great if it works for you. I would never use it though it was quite big on the scene a few years ago as a zero configuration firewall.
Maybe it has caught up. It's all swings and roundabouts with these security programs. That's why we rely on those that bother wasting their time to tell us about them.
You can always do your own research. But I wouldn't use it these days, personally, what with the great Comodo Firewall available for free, with HIPS and a pretty decent AV thrown in too.

Brother Charles, yes AVAST is one of the major players, whether free or paid. It will work very well for 90 percent of people, even older computers. But sometimes it has incompatibility issues (as do all AV). It is in the top 3 so no wonder if works for you.Brother Charles wrote:Absolutely loving AVAST Internet Security here. And yes, the new sandbox facility that users have been asking for for a long time seems to finally be doing the business. I've been using it off and on, paid and unpaid for about 14 years (have they really been going that long?)..
God bless you Brother Charles. I am a big fan of your reviews btw.
All the best.
