For me the moroder song is just a ripoff...

EDIT : Better version to judge :

The one I posted first :
Because it doesn't sound like Giorgio by Moroder.. not even close.

I actually listened up to 8:30 -- please tell me when the chords begin to resemble Giorgio by Moroder ?

If anything it sounds as if Cerrone took elements comment to many Moroder tracks (delayed, stereo spread, arpeggios, high pitched melodys above, all set to a 4/4 'on the floor' kick drum) and worked them into his own.. it's early techno/late disco era stylings..

For me the key to judge this album is to forget that it's a daft punk album, imagine that it's just a no-name artist album. Will your review still be that good? Not for me.
I totaly agree with this. A pos, imo.

French House seems to be vanished, and Daft Punk are 50 % fat-reduced... :o

They should have called it "Retrospective Access Memory", it sounds like early 70ies Disco music before Moroder came into play. Too much retro. It's neither "daft" nor "punk", and I miss some of their crazy filter & phaser & distortion & sampler effects... :help:

The last both songs "Doin' it right" and "Contact" just sound like "Daft Punk", but the rest consists of quite unspectacular guitar/piano pop.

All in all, if this album wouldn't have been from Daft Punk, I would have said it's a nice indie disco pop album... :)

What is it with electronic mainstays going off and forming bands? :hihi:

If, upon hearing the new BOC, we find they've also formed a freaking band, I'll just scream. Yes, "real" instruments and bands are great but it just seems like a bit of a mindless trend these days.

Next thing we know Skullex will be making a trumpet album or something.

James Murphy once wrote a song about this phenomenon:

People who know what they want, i.e. we care about, will be about the same, anyway.
It's all about the wavelets. I dream of the perfect additive synthesis.

I love this album so much that I have to buy it twice  I got the record (gatefold) last friday and was so excited that my hands were sweaty. So when it was time to switch side the record slipped out of my hands and fell so badly that the grooves got destroyed. Luckily it was the A side which I had listened to already. Will buy a new copy this weekend

he'd not be smart enough to have the good artistic sense to use a trumpet.. he'd probably opt for the saxophone.

Daft Punk had accomplished sooooooo much  in the realm of electronic musical instruments that they wanted to explore the new territory of actual instruments :D (sarcasm - in case it wasn't obvious)

Read about this album on SoundOnSound. Interesting article.
Crazy how they used more than million euros for doing the album.
