Hi,
I'm bumping this thread after over a decade because the problem hasn't been solved but FM8 is still a monster. Rating and color seems to be the best way to organize my huge amount of presets but they're not accessible on the Attributes page. Zen by Big Tick Audio is out of date, probably for a long time. So is it really hopeless?

Cant' you use Komplete Kontrol to tag and organize N.I. presets?

The chance of N.I. actually updating FM8 seems low.

Personally, I just make notes in Obsidian (hyperlinked note-taking tool that uses markdown files) on the really worthwhile stuff as I discover it. This has the advantage that it works with anything, even things that don't have presets as you can just take a picture of the front panel and store that in the filesystem. And you can link to common recipes for things like Reese basses, you name it. OK, you can't link directly to the preset but as finding things is usually the hardest part, I don't find that a big deal.

The other option if you're more OCD about the whole tagging thing (as making notes for everything is obviously a lot more work) is to just go and buy Pluginguru's Unify and use that to manage the synths and presets. As it's paid-for it might last longer than the free options. There's every chance NI will decide to sunset Komplete Kontrol and replace it with something else because that supports subscriptions, pay-per-preset or whatever scheme they dream up next.
