Your Favourite IOS Synth

Stupid poll, I voted Nave but several iOS synths are my favorite (thor, cassini, sunrizer, additive, imini, PPG, Magellan, alchemy, etc ).
Which iOS synths do I own?: almost all, except e.g. iPolysix and Animoog.

That app had some nice sounds and a pretty face. I would happily buy a technoBox 3, if it had Audiobus or even audiocopy. It also needs a better way to enter notes in the sequencer; the "authentic" TB-303 method is needlessly tedious.Ch00rD wrote:How can technoBox not be on this list? I voted for Sunrizer because it's the one I end up using most often. But I couldn't tell you why it's better than Nave, Animoog, Thor, Magellan, Alchemy, or NLog. It's not because I'm uncritical, either: I think the phrase "It's all good" is usually lazy. But I think there is something about sounds that is merely personal; and I like Sunrizer's.

Me too...haj wrote:I can't really single out those are very nice synths worth having. But I don't quite get about Alchemy.. Somehow I'm not attracted by it - can see only some preset player..

I'd also happily buy a technoBox3! Will it ever happen tho..dswo wrote:That app had some nice sounds and a pretty face. I would happily buy a technoBox 3, if it had Audiobus or even audiocopy. I agree. I had high hopes when i heard alchemy is coming to ios. But right now it's basically just a port of alchemy player, a preset player. Which is why i vote for sunrizer in this thread since it's an actual va synth.haj wrote:I can't really single out those are very nice synths worth having. But I don't quite get about Alchemy.. Yes, I have WaveGenerator and I think it's quite underrated lately probably because of the somewhat partly quirky UI. But I feel WaveGenrator sounds more like hardware than software. It's not too clean so quite a contrast to Nave. I really hope Mr. Palm to a bit fine tune UI (unreasonable menu itmes, easier path edititing, improved keyboard section, etc) and it would receive much more praise. Presets are also very good, maybe not so for techno dance kind music but you know if you're old keyboard player.setAI wrote:I voted Nave as best on this list- but my real favorites are the PPGs and CS Grain-

I keep wanting to like PPG -- I bought all three apps as soon as they came out -- but there is always something metallic about the sound. Animoog has a similar quality, but you can avoid it by picking the right timbres. With WaveGenerator and WaveMapper, it seems to be baked-in. If there's something I'm doing wrong, I'd love to fix it.haj wrote:Yes, I have WaveGenerator and I think it's quite underrated lately probably because of the somewhat partly quirky UI. I should also mention TC-11, another often forgotten amazing iPad synth - MADE FOR iPad. It at a glance as a typical wavetable synth seems rather limited but the forcus is on the controls. It's very, very deep and none of any synth apps could do what it does; not designed like that in the first place. It's like defining a new kind of instrument for the sake of touch interface. Maybe not so immediately useful for conventional music but if you're looking for new sound..

I have only WaveGenerator, to me I'm not sure the word I feel is metallic but I can see what you mean (not an English native speaker and my vocab is sadly limited ;p) Kind of not too smooth, creamy feeling and sounds sandpapered (but finely), I mean. And I think it's intentional although I'm not absolutely sure. The wavetables built-in or the engine is designed like that, I guess? I mean like the old hardware. So I'm taking that is the character of the synth and turn on other synth for other feeling..dswo wrote:I keep wanting to like PPG -- I bought all three apps as soon as they came out -- but there is always something metallic about the sound. No love for Nlog Pro? One of the first really usable synths on zee iPaddy? Just gave my vote. Though I doubt any of us only has one favorite? Good iPad synths are still few in numbers compared to VSTis and I think at that price it is worth owning just about all of them ( well I do) plus a few others such as Wavegenerator or wavemapper, Eden synth from Nanostudio, Micrologue from Cubasis and the garageband romplers.

If you don't like the poll then please don't participate in it and leave your hateful comments at the door.XGmode wrote:Stupid poll, I voted Nave but several iOS synths are my favorite (thor, cassini, sunrizer, additive, imini, PPG, Magellan, alchemy, etc ).
