It's a great machine. Love it
The GUI is very unfancy. I find it very intuitive though, I just go through methodically and set up each sound the way I want.
Would also love to have more amp envelope control on some sounds.

It probably sounds good like the couple of paid Xoxos synth I have. Occasionally I still use Standard, but there was another synth with a white GUI in that bundle, I simply ceased to use it because I couldn't deal with the user interfaces.
I have a 26" display and KVR is displayed at 175%, still those labels on the screenshot are hard to read. The GUI is probably way smaller on the real VST, thus even harder to read...

So I tweaked the velocity settings on each module and started finger drumming with my LPD8.
Really expressive and so much fun. The high hats in particular with the velocity knobs turned up for decay and amp, you get some really playable hats that sounds great for sixteenths and the like when varyng the velocity

The GUI pic in the first post is not actual size, it's reduced to fit onto the KVR forum page.fluffy_little_something wrote:I have a 26" display and KVR is displayed at 175%, still those labels on the screenshot are hard to read. I use a 15" laptop with a 1920X1080 screen, which is a considerably higher pixel density than your 26" screen, and I can use bong and read all labels easily.

Absolutely superb drum machine this. Pretty much every synthetic percussion sound you've ever wanted is here. It's not immediately obvious by looking at the GUI, but there are SO many drum algorithms in here. Some with an 808/909/DR-110 flavour, some which do their own thing. The kick section alone has 8 to choose from (alg 8 is my new boyfriend).
Possibly the most satisfying VST purchase I've ever made. A total steal at the asking price.

What's the difference to Drumatic 4 - does it make different percussion sounds?cron wrote:Absolutely superb drum machine this. Pretty much every synthetic percussion sound you've ever wanted is here...Possibly the most satisfying VST purchase I've ever made. A total steal at the asking price.

I hadn't come across Drumatic. Just checked the demo and I think I'll be picking that up too. I've only spent 10 minutes with Drumatic, but from first impressions Bong is more immediate. Drumatic appears to be about having pretty surgical control over everything whereas, with Bong, you pick the algorithm that's closest to what you want and tweak from there. It's pretty hard to get bad results with it because the parameters and their ranges on offer have been very carefully selected. Pretty much everything that comes out of Bong has an old school drum machine 'flavour'. It's great to tweak in real time while playing and it's easy to set up expressive patches because each knob has a dedicated velocity response dial underneath it. Definitely a place for both in my studio, although I think a lot of Xoxos free plugs that specialise in one percussion sound (e.g., Clap of Luxury) can go even deeper than Drumatic. Gonna stick with the demo for a while and see how I get on. That 29 euro offer is tempting mind...

i haven't had time to try it yet.looking fwd to it.
i'd like to see some retro drum-machine users do some more comparisons to help wet my appetite.

Im really enjoying Bong.
Im sending it through Klanghelm SDDR > Overtone PTC-2A > Overtone EQP-1A
(with a touch of Sonic Charge Permut8 )

I'll echo these sentiments; Drumatic 4 is quite a comparable machine.cron wrote:Drumatic appears to be about having pretty surgical control over everything whereas, with Bong, you pick the algorithm that's closest to what you want and tweak from there. I prefer Bong, because it's just simpler to get the sounds in the right ballpark, with the right 'vibe'
D4 is more flexible, but that flexibility can take you far away from having useful drum sounds. Bong feels more focused.
D4 is very good, and I own that too, but most of the time, Bong suits me better.
