How to promote ambient music?

Then why don't you go back to ambient's art roots and team up with some like-minded visual or video artists and create installations in galleries or other venues. Offer CDs for sale at the desk.

Despite of all liberalism, freedom, democracy & various sites, forum, platforms on the www nowadays it isn't easy at all to get popular!SampleScience wrote:I've had success in promoting and selling my sound libraries. But I'm really wondering how to efficiently promote my ambient music! I've tried a lot of things: sending promo CDs to the medias, uploading my music on music sites like Soundcloud, myspace, etc. Creating my own DJ mixes and having my own podcast (Obscure Waves, which serve the purpose of promoting my music as well as other similar music I dig).
I know there must be a way to efficiently promote my ambient music. I've just haven't found it yet. Any hints?
Thanks!
A key to success could be to connect music with another (material) product, maybe in the sector of wellness, healing/health etc… in order to cover real or urgent necessities/needs of people.

No. Would anyone come see me? I doubt it. + seeing someone holding one note for 1-2 mins isn't very interesting, it's even worst when you're doing that with a laptop!Numanoid wrote:Are you also playing live shows?SampleScience wrote:I've had success in promoting and selling my sound libraries. I don't know...depends on the quality of the MDMA - JK!
Screw it and start a festival and headline the chill stage. All famous DJs do their own events, why not artists too?

True, but surely its just easier and more cost efficient to buy half a ton of quartz wholesale and punt that to the mugs.vurt wrote:theres a lot of money to be made in the cynical new age whalesong shite market though. have you seen the price of crystals?
well thats different. as soon as you're on catering to that market, then you're an obvious target for the nefarious temptations of wossname, satan, so hookers and blow are clearly an unavoidable workplace risk and you're entitled to hazard pay as a result.also try the "christian ambient rapture music" market. thats how i pay for hookers and blow. just dont tell them thats what i spend the cash on!

FWIW, my 'dark new age' album "The Djembe and Panpipes of the Soul-Devouring Revenant' will be available from all appropriate stockists(*) from MarchSampleScience wrote:Funny thing is, it's probably true that there is more money to be made making cheesy new age music than "serious" ambient...
(*) specifically, that small teashop in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and that weird-smelling bookshop in the Corn Exchange(**).
(**)Any Corn Exchange.

Yeah, why not, Steve Roach is doing a lot of those shows, upcoming gig next month for example: http://steveroach.com/store/store.php?item=508SampleScience wrote:No. Would anyone come see me? "Immerse thyself in the deep end of the soundcurrent at Solar Culture's Galactic Center, complete with meditation caves in the back corners of the environment".
Man, I wish Tucson wasn't on the other side of the globe, I dig Steve Roach

In reality YOU sound cynical! Please stop judging others work with your own negative thoughts. And btw: some so called "Ambient" music, especially dark ambient seems to be produced by doubtful persons, satanists etc…with clearly evil purposes.whyterabbyt wrote:I thought he said 'ambient' not 'cynical new-age whalesong shite'.Delfinoverde wrote:A key to success could be to connect music with another (material) product, maybe in the sector of wellness, healing/health etc…

Are you of the opinion that one mild joke somehow gives you an insight into my thoughts, negative or otherwise? Would you like a brief corrective rejoinder on that theory?Delfinoverde wrote:In reality YOU sound cynical! Good grief. Doubtful persons and satanists. Wow. Have you notified the authorities? We cant have people with doubts making music for clearly evil porpoises; that's like the antithesis of whalesong. And btw: some so called "Ambient" music, especially dark ambient seems to be produced by doubtful persons, satanists etc…with clearly evil purposes.
I still have some copies of my old album "Shakuhachi Passages for the Invocation of the Leviathan Gogmagog" if you're interested.
