Then why don't you go back to ambient's art roots and team up with some like-minded visual or video artists and create installations in galleries or other venues. Offer CDs for sale at the desk.

Despite of all liberalism, freedom, democracy & various sites, forum, platforms on the www nowadays it isn't easy at all to get popular!

All seems saturated, everyone tries to make music or sales from it. With Ambient Music it's even more harder because it requires a selected public and it's not easy to organize concerts, gigs with this kind of music. Self promotion is really okay but I don't know if you will ever reach the "right" people with connections & channels with it. An already popular artist could easier do it because he might not be dependent of Labels anymore and broil it all in his own kitchen.

A key to success could be to connect music with another (material) product, maybe in the sector of wellness, healing/health etc… in order to cover real or urgent necessities/needs of people.

No. Would anyone come see me? I doubt it. + seeing someone holding one note for 1-2 mins isn't very interesting, it's even worst when you're doing that with a laptop!

Screw it and start a festival and headline the chill stage. All famous DJs do their own events, why not artists too?

I love the premise of this thread. In this post I have not read any words in the thread, but I want to say that ambient music is (not bill leeb) totally awesome.

you dont have to do that.
learn to vj or do the lights and work with that.
hire experimental dancers to move on the stage while youre music plays.
create something beyond the music too

theres a lot of money to be made in the cynical new age whalesong shite market though. have you seen the price of crystals?
also try the "christian ambient rapture music" market. thats how i pay for hookers and blow. just dont tell them thats what i spend the cash on!

True, but surely its just easier and more cost efficient to buy half a ton of quartz wholesale and punt that to the mugs.

well thats different. as soon as you're on catering to that market, then you're an obvious target for the nefarious temptations of wossname, satan, so hookers and blow are clearly an unavoidable workplace risk and you're entitled to hazard pay as a result.

Funny thing is, it's probably true that there is more money to be made making cheesy new age music than "serious" ambient...

Good grief. Doubtful persons and satanists. Wow. Have you notified the authorities? We cant have people with doubts making music for clearly evil porpoises; that's like the antithesis of whalesong.
